Before the signing, Tebow had been out of the NFL since 2012 and had been playing professional baseball in the minor leagues for the New York Mets. There was never a guarantee that Tebow would make the regular season roster, and his lack of experience at the position put him at a disadvantage.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p>In the Jaguars\u2019 first preseason game, Tebow played 16 snaps at tight end.<\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cThankful for the highs and even the lows, the opportunities, and the setbacks,\u201d Tebow said on Twitter. \u201cI\u2019ve never wanted to make decisions out of fear of failure and I\u2019m grateful for the chance to have pursued a dream\u2026 Thank you to the<\/span> <span>Jaguars organization and everyone who has supported me in this journey. Smith called the signing \u201cwhite privilege\u201d while saying that Tebow was a benefactor of great privilege.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cIs this not an example of white privilege?\u201d Smith <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsbusters.org\/blogs\/culture\/jay-maxson\/2021\/05\/21\/espns-stephen-smith-tebow-signing-just-more-white-privilege\"><span>said<\/span><\/a><span>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cWhen George Floyd ultimately was murdered \u2026 it wasn\u2019t just about him. It was about the symbolism of what transpired because black people have repeatedly felt I like we have the proverbial knee on your neck. We constantly have to scratch and claw our way,\u201d he added.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cWhen we see someone of a different ilk, of a different ethnicity, getting opportunities we know we would never get, that\u2019s where the words white privilege come from. \u2026 There\u2019s no way to eradicate white privilege without white individuals giving up some of their privilege,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Shannon Sharpe \u2014 former NFL tight end and current Fox Sports personality \u2014 also weighed in.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cJust think about how arrogant a person must be to play a professional sport in which you\u2019re really not that good at, and all the other teams, the 30-plus other teams [say \u2018Nah, bruh,] we saw what ya had. You\u2019re not good.\u2019 You say, \u2018You know what? I might not be good enough to play this sport, but I\u2019m great enough to go play another professional sport, even if I haven\u2019t picked up a bat in 12 years\u2019 \u2026 \u2018I\u2019m arrogant enough to just think, \u2018I\u2019m gonna go back to the sport that jettisoned me and I\u2019m gonna switch positions. I haven\u2019t played in the league in six years, haven\u2019t taken an offensive snap in nine years, but I\u2019m just that good.\u2019 Tim Tebow cain\u2019t play no tight end. The switch from quarterback to tight end was a last-ditch effort by Tebow to once again play in the NFL, and the experiment failed. Tebow will have a multitude of options now that his football days are over.
