Apple recently said it plans to scan U.S. iPhones to detect known images of child sexual abuse.<\/p>\n<p><span><strong>Fact Check:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/photo\/?fbid=10105803185446969&amp;set=a.10103514998037879\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">image<\/a> of what looks like an Aug. 6 article, supposedly written by The Guardian tech editor <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/alexhern\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Alex Hern<\/a>, has been circulating online recently. It alleges Apple \u201cwill scan photo libraries stored on IPhones in the US for known far-right propaganda as well as firearm ownership,\u201d a move that was purportedly praised by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.adl.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Anti-Defamation League<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/momsdemandaction.org\/about\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Moms Demand Action<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The screen grab appears to be a photoshopped version of a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/technology\/2021\/aug\/06\/apple-plans-to-scan-us-iphones-for-child-sexual-abuse-images\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">real Aug. 6 article<\/a> Hern wrote for The Guardian titled, \u201cApple plans to scan US iPhones for child sexual abuse images.\u201d Some details such as the byline, time stamp and sub-headline in the doctored image match those in the actual article.
