The 5,800 figure, however, referred to children hospitalized with COVID-19 since the <em>start<\/em> of the pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAn earlier version of this story overstated the number of children who have been hospitalized in Texas recently with COVID-19,\u201d the Tribune said in a correction. \u201cThe story said over 5,800 children had been hospitalized during a seven-day period in August, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. That number correctly referred to children hospitalized with COVID-19 since the pandemic began.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn actuality, 783 children were admitted to Texas hospitals with COVID-19 between July 1 and Aug. 9 of this year,\u201d the correction noted of the six-week period.<\/p>\n<p>Posting the glaring correction to Twitter, Bloomberg reporter Steven Dennis commented, \u201cThat\u2019s one heck of a correction.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\" readability=\"4.2074074074074\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">That\u2019s one heck of a correction.  <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/UBBgV0OXXm\">https:\/\/t.co\/UBBgV0OXXm<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/uhxkYABwR3\">pic.twitter.com\/uhxkYABwR3<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Steven Dennis (@StevenTDennis) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/StevenTDennis\/status\/1425919692372332547?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">August 12, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>According to Fox News, the false number was shared by Washington Post writer Jennifer Rubin, who later <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/media\/texas-tribune-erroneously-reports-5800-children-hospitalized-covid\">deleted<\/a> her tweet.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUnconscionable: Over 5,800 children in Texas were newly hospitalized with COVID-19 in the seven-day period ending on Aug. 8, a 37% increase from a week prior. where is the pro-life movement ?? it\u2019s now a death cult,\u201d Rubin tweeted on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>Media critic Steve Krakauer blasted the paper for the carless error and those on the Left propagating fear with the false information.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTRASH,\u201d Krakauer tweeted. \u201c<span class=\"css-901oao css-16my406 r-poiln3 r-bcqeeo r-qvutc0\">So the [Texas Tribune]&nbsp;<\/span>updates their trash, lying, fear-mongering story about hospitalized kids, but what happens when you have trash columnists like Jen Rubin, whose tweet is uncorrected with the actual info? They combined MULTIPLE days into one.
