Rand Paul\u2019s medical license was revoked.<\/p>\n<p><span><strong>Verdict: False<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>There is no evidence that Paul had his medical license revoked. The claim appears to stem from a satire article.<\/p>\n<p><span><strong>Fact Check:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Paul graduated from Duke University School of Medicine in 1988, according to the <a href=\"http:\/\/web1.ky.gov\/GenSearch\/LicenseList.aspx?AGY=5&amp;FLD1=Paul&amp;FLD2=29638&amp;FLD3=0&amp;FLD4=0&amp;TYPE=\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kentucky Board of Medical Licensure (KBML)<\/a>, which oversees medical licenses in the state of Kentucky. He then went on to complete a general surgery internship at Georgia Baptist Medical Center, followed by a residency in ophthalmology at Duke University Medical Center in 1993, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.paul.senate.gov\/about-rand\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u201cAbout\u201d page<\/a>&nbsp;on his Senate website.<\/p>\n<p>Paul has been vocal about his opinions on the government\u2019s handling of the COVID-19 pandemic, saying vaccinated Americans should not have to wear masks, despite guidance from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/coronavirus\/2019-ncov\/vaccines\/fully-vaccinated.html\">CDC<\/a> and the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/anthony-fauci-rand-paul-masks-covid-vaccine\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dr. Anthony Fauci<\/a>, CBS News reported.<\/p>\n<p>A viral post on Facebook is now claiming that Paul\u2019s medical license was \u201cjust revoked.\u201d This, however, is not true.&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/checkyourfact.com\/2021\/08\/10\/fact-check-rand-paul-covid-vaccine\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Does This Image Show Rand Paul Getting His COVID-19 Vaccine?)<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Paul is currently&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/web1.ky.gov\/GenSearch\/LicenseList.aspx?AGY=5&amp;FLD1=Paul&amp;FLD2=29638&amp;FLD3=0&amp;FLD4=0&amp;TYPE=\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">listed in the KBML database<\/a> as an \u201cActive Physician\u201d with a license first granted in 1993 that is set to expire in 2022. There have currently been no board actions taken against him, according to the KBML. Had Paul\u2019s medical license been revoked, media outlets likely would have reported on it, yet&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/news.google.com\/search?q=rand%20paul%20medical%20license%20revoked&amp;hl=en-US&amp;gl=US&amp;ceid=US%3Aen\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">none<\/a>&nbsp;have.<\/p>\n<p>Paul was initially certified by the American Board of Ophthalmologists (ABO) but subsequently partnered with others to form a new board, in protest of a decision made by the ABO, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/blogs\/right-turn\/wp\/2013\/11\/08\/rand-paul-has-another-problem\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Washington Post<\/a>. That new board was dissolved in 2011, the outlet reported, and Paul remained certified by the ABO until 2005, according to the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/abop.org\/verify-a-physician\/?fn=Rand&amp;ln=Paul#physician-list-search-results\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">ABO\u2019s website<\/a>. The KBML does not require board certification for licensure, the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/blogs\/right-turn\/wp\/2013\/11\/08\/rand-paul-has-another-problem\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Washington Post<\/a> reported.<\/p>\n<p>The claim appears to stem from an Aug. 10 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/laughingindisbelief\/2021\/08\/senator-rand-pauls-medical-license-revoked\/?fbclid=IwAR2_aM5jLpX4u0QAMKHDJI-N8q6-hDAWBrtnICGK1nGqsCpXIo1a3sLVsQc\">article<\/a> published by Laughing in Disbelief bearing the headline: \u201cSenator Rand Paul\u2019s Medical License Revoked.\u201d While Laughing in Disbelief contains a clear Disclaimer in the \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/laughingindisbelief\/is-this-satire\/\">Is This Satire<\/a>\u201d section of its website that the stories are meant to be satirical, social media users have been sharing the information without such a warning, passing the information off as factual.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A post shared on Facebook over 340 times claims Republican Kentucky Sen.
