The students who filed the lawsuit argued that the vaccine mandate violated the 14th Amendment and state law,&#8217;\u201d Politico <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2021\/08\/12\/amy-coney-barrett-indiana-university-vaccines-504322\">reported<\/a>. The school reportedly allows&nbsp;religious and medical exemptions, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/supreme-court\/supreme-court-rejects-challenge-indiana-university-s-vaccination-requirement-n1276714\">NBC News<\/a>, and students\u2019 other options include&nbsp;\u201ctaking the semester off, viewing classes online or attending other universities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\" story-text__paragraph\">A three-judge panel of the 7th U.S. Circuit of Appeals last week, likewise, declined to block the vaccine mandate. A federal judge, too, said the mandate should be allowed, citing the&nbsp;\u201cbalance of harms and the public interest favor Indiana University.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Vaccine mandates have become increasingly prominent.&nbsp;Earlier this week,&nbsp;Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin issued a memorandum informing all Department of Defense employees of an upcoming Covid-19 vaccine mandate.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMembers of the U.S. military will be required to get the COVID-19 vaccine beginning next month under a plan laid out by the Pentagon Monday and endorsed by President Joe Biden,\u201d the Associated Press reported, adding, \u201cAustin said the mid-September deadline could be accelerated if the vaccine receives final FDA approval or infection rates continue to rise.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have every confidence that Service leadership and your commanders will implement this new vaccination program with professionalism, skill, and compassion,\u201d Austin said. \u201cTo defend this Nation, we need a healthy and ready force.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Food &amp; Drug Administration (FDA) is expected to fully approve Pfizer-BioNTech\u2019s vaccine \u201cby the start of next month,\u201d according to a New York Times&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.chicagotribune.com\/coronavirus\/ct-aud-nw-nyt-pfizer-fda-vaccine-20210804-hp2phfs5szftjliphvhusfi6ry-story.html\">report<\/a>.
