The bill would <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/senate-passes-1-2-trillion-infrastructure-bill\"><span>spend<\/span><\/a><span> $110 billion on roads and bridges, $73 billion on power infrastructure, $66 billion on passenger and freight rail, $65 billion on high-speed internet, and $39 billion on public transit.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The legislation allocates $25 billion to the Department of Energy for public-private partnerships meant to address climate change. Gates announced in an interview with <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/bill-gates-pledges-1-5-billion-for-infrastructure-bills-new-climate-projects-11628769601\"><span>The Wall Street Journal<\/span><\/a><span> that he would devote $1.5 billion to the program through his climate fund, Breakthrough Energy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cCritical for all these climate technologies is to get the costs down and to be able to scale them up to a pretty gigantic level,\u201d the Microsoft co-founder told the outlet. \u201cYou\u2019ll never get that scale up unless the government\u2019s coming in with the right policies, and the right policy is exactly what\u2019s in that infrastructure bill.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Gates added that Breakthrough Energy would shift funding for the biggest projects to Europe and Asia if the package is not approved by the House of Representatives and signed into law by President Biden.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Addressing climate change has been a core policy objective for the Biden administration.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>In a recent <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/john-kerry-says-climate-crisis-may-be-worse-than-covid-fallout-begs-china-to-cut-emissions\"><span>speech<\/span><\/a><span>, for example, United States Special Presidential Envoy for Climate John Kerry asked China to reduce its carbon emissions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cThe climate crisis, my friends, is the test of our times,\u201d he said. \u201cAnd while some may still believe it is unfolding in slow motion, no, this test is now as acute and as existential as any previous one.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cAs a large country, an economic leader and now the largest driver of climate change, China absolutely can help lead the world to success by peaking and starting to reduce emissions early during this critical decade of 2020 to 2030,\u201d he added. \u201cThe truth is there\u2019s no alternative, because without sufficient reduction by China, together with the rest of us, the goal of 1.5 degrees is essentially impossible.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Months earlier, Kerry and his Chinese counterpart <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/as-biden-pushes-climate-change-efforts-china-walks-back-theirs-to-ramp-up-growth\"><span>approved<\/span><\/a><span> a statement vowing that both nations are \u201ccommitted to cooperating with each other and with other countries to tackle the climate crisis, which must be addressed with the seriousness and urgency that it demands.\u201d However, China recently shirked its climate goals to double down on growing its economy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>China alone is <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ucsusa.org\/resources\/each-countrys-share-co2-emissions\"><span>responsible<\/span><\/a><span> for 28% of the world\u2019s greenhouse gas emissions. Between 2008 and 2018 \u2014 a period of rapid economic growth for the world\u2019s most populated nation \u2014 its carbon dioxide emissions significantly <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/election-us-2020-54719577\"><span>increased<\/span><\/a><span>.
