Moderna\u2019s vaccine was 92% effective against hospitalization and Pfizer\u2019s was 85%,\u201d Yahoo <a href=\"https:\/\/news.yahoo.com\/data-suggests-pfizer-modernas-vaccines-090012364.html\">reported<\/a>. \u201cBut the vaccines\u2019 effectiveness against infection dropped sharply in July, when the Delta variant\u2019s prevalence in Minnesota had risen to over 70%. Moderna was 76% effective against infection, and Pfizer was only 42% effective.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Fauci on Tuesday called for requiring all U.S. teachers to take the COVID-19 vaccination.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m going to upset people, but I think we should,\u201d Fauci <a href=\"https:\/\/www.msnbc.com\/morning-joe\/watch\/dr-fauci-there-s-no-doubt-these-vaccines-will-be-fully-approved-by-fda-118264901984\">said<\/a> on MSNBC\u2019s \u201cMorning Joe.\u201d \u201cWe\u2019ve had 600,000-plus deaths and we are in a major surge now as we\u2019re going into the fall, into the school season. This is very serious business.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But Fauci, an immunologist and director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases who served on former President Trump\u2019s White House Coronavirus Task Force and is now President Biden\u2019s chief medical adviser on COVID-19, said the mandates shouldn\u2019t come from the federal government.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou\u2019re talking about local mandates, for schools, for teachers for universities for colleges,\u201d said Fauci. \u201cI\u2019m sorry. I know people must like to have their individual freedom and not be told to do something but I think we\u2019re in such a serious situation now that under certain circumstances mandates should be done.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe obviously have to balance, you know, the discussion that we\u2019ve had now for, you know, over a year is to balance the negative impact on kids from keeping them out of school,\u201d Fauci said. He added that the new Delta variant could put children at risk, urging further steps to \u201csurround the children with people, who if they are eligible to be vaccinated, get vaccinated\u2026 if you want to be around children, you have to do whatever you can to protect them.
