According to documents presented in court, they will also require face masks for employees of Bexar County and San Antonio and visitors to city and county facilities.<\/i><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"p1\">Governor Abbott\u2019s press secretary, Renae Eze, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/nation\/2021\/08\/10\/coronavirus-covid-live-updates-us\/\"><span class=\"s2\">said<\/span><\/a> she anticipates higher courts to side with the governor\u2019s directive.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cGovernor Abbott\u2019s resolve to protect the rights and freedoms of all Texans has not wavered,\u201d she said in a statement. \u201cThere have been dozens of legal challenges to the Governor\u2019s executive orders \u2014 all of which have been upheld in the end. We expect a similar outcome when the San Antonio trial court\u2019s decision is reviewed by the appellate courts.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">In an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/nation\/2021\/08\/10\/coronavirus-covid-live-updates-us\/\"><span class=\"s2\">interview<\/span><\/a> Tuesday afternoon per The Washington Post, San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg praised the judge\u2019s ruling and called Abbott\u2019s order a \u201creckless ban on face masks in schools.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cWe\u2019ve seen during the course of this pandemic actions from state officials here and elsewhere devolve into pandering politics,\u201d Nirenberg added. \u201cAnd what we want to do is simply protect the lives and the health of our community.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins was also successful in seeking out a temporary restraining order against Abbott\u2019s ban on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">A Dallas County district judge ruled that Abbott\u2019s executive order is not \u201cnecessary action to combat the pandemic.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The judge <a href=\"https:\/\/www.documentcloud.org\/documents\/21039853-tro\"><span class=\"s2\">wrote<\/span><\/a>, \u201cIn his role, Judge Jenkins leads the County government in providing, among other services, safety protection for all citizens of Dallas County.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Abbott recently announced steps to respond to the spread of the virus.
