Republican Florida Gov. <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/08\/09\/desantis-florida-schools-salaries-mask-mandates-covid-19\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ron DeSantis<\/a> and Republican Texas Gov. Greg Abbott have both instituted a <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/03\/02\/gavin-newsom-slams-texas-lift-mask-mandate\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">ban on mask mandates<\/a> in their states. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/07\/30\/ron-desantis-executive-order-children-mask-schools\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: \u2018No Restrictions And No Mandates\u2019: DeSantis Announces Executive Order Protecting Children From Mask Mandates In Schools)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cDo you have presidential powers to intervene in states like Texas and Florida where they are banning mask mandates?\u201d a reporter asked.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t believe that I do thus far. We\u2019re checking that,\u201d Biden responded. \u201cBut federal workforce I can.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>DeSantis and Abbott argue that mask mandates harm residents, <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/07\/30\/ron-desantis-executive-order-children-mask-schools\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">especially young students<\/a> looking to return to normal school rhythms.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe force masking, it has harmed students \u2026 Shouldn\u2019t this be something that the parent is at best to evaluate, the effect that this will have on their children?\u201d DeSantis said July 30. \u201cWhy would we have government force masks on our kids when many of these kids are already immune through prior infection, they\u2019re virtually at zero risk of significant illness, and when virtually every school personnel, they\u2019ve had access to vaccines for months.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI want to empower parents to be able to make the best decisions they can for the well-being of their children,\u201d DeSantis added.<\/p>\n<h2>WATCH:<\/h2>\n<p>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"WATCH: Biden delivers remarks on Senate passage of bipartisan infrastructure bill\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Jh-NacrxD-Y?start=7961&#038;feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/p>\n<p>Biden\u2019s statement echoes his language from early July regarding the potential of a new eviction moratorium. Biden and other White House officials argued for weeks that the executive branch lacked the authority to extend the existing eviction moratorium or create a new one.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGiven the recent spread of the delta variant, including among those American\u2019s both most likely to face evictions and lacking vaccinations, President Biden would have strongly supported a decision by the CDC to further extend this eviction moratorium,\u201d White House press secretary Jen Psaki <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/07\/29\/joe-biden-extend-eviction-delta-variant-us-supreme-court\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/07\/29\/joe-biden-extend-eviction-delta-variant-us-supreme-court\/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1628165150792000&amp;usg=AFQjCNFWHlk0aG7OXqJrcYHXatzOX5LwbA\">said July 29<\/a>. \u201cUnfortunately, the Supreme Court has made clear that this option is no longer available.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Supreme Court ruled in June that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) could not impose an eviction moratorium without express direction from Congress in the form of new legislation.
