Well, we\u2019re for a carbon tax.\u201d Exxon CEO Darren Woods quickly <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/exxon-climate-change-lobbying-7a88d717-8db5-4053-8113-004a6e3b467b.html\"><span>condemned<\/span><\/a><span> the comments.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Nevertheless, Climate Leadership Council CEO Greg Bertelsen said in a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/policy\/energy-environment\/566768-conservation-alliance-suspends-exxon-over-lobbyists-comments-on\"><span>statement<\/span><\/a><span> that the organization would suspend Exxon\u2019s membership, as well as its involvement with advocacy arm Americans for Carbon Dividends: \u201cWe continue to believe that we will establish lasting climate solutions by bringing together a broad and diverse group of stakeholders who can work together to address this enormous challenge. This will continue to be our guiding principle.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cIt\u2019s more important than ever for organizations to work together to advance meaningful policy solutions to address shared challenges and society\u2019s net-zero ambitions,\u201d Exxon responded in a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/exxon-mobil-climate-idCNL4N2PD41O\"><span>statement<\/span><\/a><span> that called the move \u201cdisappointing and counterproductive.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/activist-investors-are-seizing-companies-to-push-social-justice-measures\"><span>The Daily Wire<\/span><\/a><span> reported in June that \u201cactivist investors\u201d launched a firm called Engine No. 1 \u2014 an investment firm that believes \u201ca company\u2019s performance is greatly enhanced by the investments it makes in workers, communities, and the environment.\u201d In December, the group secured a 0.02% stake in Exxon and gave an activist letter to its Board of Directors, insisting that the oil giant \u201cmust change\u201d with the times.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Engine No. 1 argues that Exxon\u2019s lackluster performance is due to hesitancy in pursuing \u201cgrowth areas like renewables\u201d even though \u201csuch investments are likely to deliver lower returns to shareholders than oil and gas projects.\u201d Though the investors do not expect Exxon to \u201cdiversify overnight,\u201d they believe that pursuing renewables has \u201cmore than cosmetic value to investors.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Engine No. 1 then clinched three of Exxon\u2019s twelve board seats.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span>The Daily Wire is one of America\u2019s fastest-growing conservative media companies and counter-cultural outlets for news, opinion, and entertainment.
