He \u201cholds traditional Christian beliefs and conservative political beliefs which medical schools tend to discriminate against and\/or hold biases toward.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Clark\u2019s pro-life views drew attention from medical school faculty in November 2018 when he hosted Christian speaker Alex McFarland. During his speech, McFarland stated that life begins at conception. According to the lawsuit, the event generated \u201csubstantial opposition from many faculty and students.\u201d Some people went so far as to tear down flyers about the event.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The lawsuit claims that following the campus speaking event, instructors began to treat Clark differently. Allegations range from academic punishment to claims of physical harassment.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>One conversation became particularly testy when Obstetrics and Gynecology instructor, Thomas Neely, allegedly called Clark \u201cstupid\u201d and questioned whether his \u201cbrain was working.\u201d Clark told the instructor that \u201cyou are not going to treat me that way\u201d and \u201cyou are the worst preceptor I have ever had.\u201d&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Clark dubbed the comments \u201cdemeaning\u201d and \u201cderogatory.\u201d The lawsuit alleged that these comments were part of a pattern of poor behavior \u201cdirected toward medical students and trainees \u2026 behavior that is particularly hostile against religious and conservative students.\u201d&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The school allegedly took no issue with the instructor\u2019s comments, though Clark\u2019s behavior was deemed \u201cunprofessional.\u201d&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Following the interaction, Neeley allegedly forced Clark to sit in a chair in the hallway and speak through the doorway. Clark claims that the poor treatment from his professors led to a decline in his mental health.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>In September 2019, Assistant Dean Olivia Mittel required Clark to sign a \u201cprofessional contract\u201d with the school \u2014 a contract that no other students were asked to sign \u2014 if he wished to return to his class. Mittel told Clark that he could either take a medical leave from the school due to his growing depression or face the \u201cStudent Promotions Committee\u201d to \u201cface potential dismissal from the Medical School.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Clark opted to face the student committee, which ultimately recommended that Clark be dismissed from the school.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The lawsuit argues that the comments that Clark made were not within the university\u2019s right to regulate.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cClark neither denies nor disputes that the [university] has a pedagogical interest in enforcing \u2018professionalism\u2019 standards, but Clark\u2019s expressions were not made at inappropriate times or places, nor were his comments disruptive or offensive, nor did they undermine the school\u2019s basic educational mission, nor did they infringe upon the rights of others \u2026 that in any way can be reasonably regulated by the University.\u201d&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span>The Daily Wire is one of America\u2019s fastest-growing conservative media companies and counter-cultural outlets for news, opinion, and entertainment.
