Pentagon Spokesman John Kirby announced the plan on Monday and highlighted the military was in compliance with Joe Biden\u2019s direction.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou can consider this memo today as what we would call in the military a warning order. A warning order to the force that this is coming and we want you to be ready for it as well,\u201d he stated. \u201cObviously, we\u2019d prefer that you get the vaccine now and not wait for the mandate.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In a memo, Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin announced employees of the Department of Defense would have until September 15 to get the COVID-19 vaccination.<\/p>\n<p>Austin went on to say, \u201cI will not hesitate to act sooner or recommend a different course.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">.<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/PentagonPresSec?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@PentagonPresSec<\/a> gives an update on COVID-19 vaccines within the Force. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/kPXOdihs0n\">pic.twitter.com\/kPXOdihs0n<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Department of Defense \ud83c\uddfa\ud83c\uddf8 (@DeptofDefense) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DeptofDefense\/status\/1424813274806296586?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">August 9, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Kirby reiterated the secretary\u2019s sentiments by saying the military was following Biden\u2019s recommendations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are going to be developing policies to comply with the president\u2019s direction that the unvaccinated will have to be subjected to certain requirements and restrictions,\u201d he explained. \u201c\u2026We\u2019re working hard on what will be a policy directive to come in the coming days that will make it clear what those requirements and restrictions are and how they apply to everybody in the duty workforce, including uniformed personnel.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Those who would be resistant to receiving the shot may be faced with obstacles and punishments.
