Rick Scott (R-Fla.) slammed Democrats\u2019 reckless tax and spending policies just before the upper chamber passed the infrastructure bill. Speaking on Capitol Hill on Monday, Scott criticized the left by saying it appeared Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) had taken control of the Democrat Party.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt sure looks like Bernie Sanders now controls the party,\u201d he stated. \u201cIt\u2019s systemic socialism. It\u2019s exactly what he\u2019s always proposed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Scott added the Democrats\u2019 agenda of \u201csystemic socialism\u201d put American families on the hook with higher taxes, skyrocketing debt and raging inflation. He pointed to the Democrats\u2019 new budget outlook by saying the federal government was not living within its means and the left wasn\u2019t trying to balance their spending.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re at a little over $28 trillion worth of debt. I think 28.5 and we\u2019re about to hit 30 trillion. We\u2019ve already passed the debt ceiling,\u201d he explained. \u201cThey\u2019re projecting to take our federal debt to $45 trillion. They\u2019re assuming interest rates are going to stay down. They\u2019re assuming in 2031, the annual interest expense will be $1 trillion.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">The radical Left\u2019s reckless tax and spending spree will make inflation worse and lead to the biggest tax increase in recent history.<\/p>\n<p>We are glad to see some House Democrats finally recognize that, but when will the <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SenateDems?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@SenateDems<\/a>? <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/3bUMPjocpu\">https:\/\/t.co\/3bUMPjocpu<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Senate Republicans (@NRSC) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NRSC\/status\/1424867141174632450?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">August 9, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Scott had been among several GOP lawmakers who were in favor of improving U.S. infrastructure, but in a way he said was fiscally responsible. He argued Congress needed to become more honest with the American people.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI talk to families about issues they deal with. The biggest issue they\u2019re dealing with now is inflation,\u201d he explained. \u201c\u2026The poorest families in this country, the families on a fixed income, they can\u2019t afford what we\u2019re doing to them. We\u2019ve got to stop wasteful spending.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Inflation and reckless spending has not been the only concern that was brought forward by Republicans. The GOP has been drawing attention to Democrat-lead efforts to make changes to the death tax, which was one of several changes to tax code the left has proposed in order to fund their massive spending.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">It is stunning what&#8217;s happening in Washington today. <\/p>\n<p>Americans deserve to know the truth about the reckless tax-and-spending spree Dems are forcing through the Senate.<br \/>-Debt to $45 TRILLION in 10 years<br \/>-Massive govt expansion<br \/>-Huge tax increases<\/p>\n<p>The bad news is endless. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/ILc78EOMnO\">pic.twitter.com\/ILc78EOMnO<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Senator John Thune (@SenJohnThune) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SenJohnThune\/status\/1425163572083101702?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">August 10, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>In an op-ed published on Monday, South Dakota Sen. John Thune (R) asserted Americans could be forced into selling their family-owned farms just to pay Biden\u2019s proposed double death tax. He argued the U.S. tax code has allowed family-run businesses to be passed down to the next generation without the imposition of capital gains taxes on the built-in gains from the prior generation.<\/p>\n<p>Thune added many of these \u201cgains\u201d were unrealized. The price of the land may have risen since being owned by previous generations, but farmers haven\u2019t seen a penny of actual gain.
