The variant was responsible for over 90 percent of COVID-19 cases in the U.S. from July 18 to 31, <a href=\"https:\/\/covid.cdc.gov\/covid-data-tracker\/#variant-proportions\">data<\/a> collected by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) shows.<\/p>\n<p>The Aug. 4 Facebook post claims unvaccinated people are not spreading the coronavirus, while vaccinated people are. \u201cHmmmm fully Vaccinated people are Spreading the new Variant covid and The unvaccinated are not spreading anything!!!\u201d the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/jarod.harrell\/posts\/4632368433460756\">post<\/a>&nbsp;states. \u201cIt would seem they gave you the VIRUS to spread to more people!! I see what you did there government!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While vaccinated people can experience <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vcuhealth.org\/news\/covid-19\/breakthrough-infections-viral-load-what-does-this-mean-to-you\">breakthrough infections<\/a> and can spread the virus, unvaccinated people are at a greater risk of being infected and spreading the virus, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/coronavirus\/2019-ncov\/variants\/delta-variant.html\">CDC<\/a>. The agency <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/coronavirus\/2019-ncov\/variants\/delta-variant.html\">also states<\/a> that the quantity of coronavirus created in breakthrough infections of the Delta variant and other variants in a fully vaccinated person decreases more quickly than in unvaccinated people. In other words, fully vaccinated people are likely contagious for a shorter amount of time.<\/p>\n<p>Lisa Maragakis, the Johns Hopkins Health System senior director of infection prevention, confirmed in an email to Check Your Fact that the claim unvaccinated people do not spread COVID-19 is inaccurate.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBoth vaccinated and unvaccinated people can get and spread the virus that causes COVID-19,\u201d Maragakis siad. \u201cUnvaccinated people are much more susceptible and at much higher risk for severe infection and death.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/vaccines\/covid-19\/health-departments\/breakthrough-cases.html\">CDC data<\/a> as of Aug. 2 shows that of the over 164 million Americans who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19, only 7,525 people were hospitalized or died from breakthrough infections. <a href=\"https:\/\/checkyourfact.com\/2021\/08\/05\/fact-check-california-mail-ballots-recall-election-delta-variant\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Image Claims California Is Sending Mail-In Ballots To Voters For Gavin Newsom\u2019s Recall Election Due To The Delta Variant)<\/a><\/p>\n<p>An&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kff.org\/policy-watch\/covid-19-vaccine-breakthrough-cases-data-from-the-states\/?utm_campaign=KFF-2021-Global-Health-Policy-GHP&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;_hsmi=145114702&amp;_hsenc=p2ANqtz--TBF1PfjqK7BYmWTJMf8NuCzZRrnlY7RH1A3-Ev7QKAs2lY77cBslpB-yVegsQzbYd_iC-9dPnsRERz-wWh0yW6mKSlg&amp;utm_content=145114702&amp;utm_source=hs_email\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">analysis<\/a> published on July 31 by Kaiser Family Foundation showed that 24 states and the District of Columbia had collected over a month\u2019s worth of data on breakthrough COVID-19 cases.
