Andrew Cuomo discredit accusers, the organization announced Monday.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>\u201cThis board-led investigation, with which David is cooperating, will take no longer than 30 days, and will help shed light on the events that unfolded and guide the Boards on any necessary next steps,\u201d said Morgan Cox and Jodie Patterson, board chairs for HRC and the HRC Foundation.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>David publicly called on Cuomo to resign in a Tuesday evening tweet following news that the investigation found Cuomo guilty of sexual harassment.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The nation\u2019s largest LGBTQ rights advocacy group is investigating its president\u2019s role in helping Gov. Andrew Cuomo discredit women who accused him of sexual harassment, the organization announced Monday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHuman Rights Campaign and Human Rights Campaign Foundation President Alphonso David\u2019s inclusion in the New York State Attorney General\u2019s report on the investigation of Governor Andrew Cuomo is very concerning,\u201d Morgan Cox and Jodie Patterson, board chairs for HRC and the HRC Foundation, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.advocate.com\/politics\/2021\/8\/09\/hrc-launches-probe-alphonso-davids-work-gov-andrew-cuomo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">said in a statement released Monday morning<\/a>. \u201cOver the past several days, HRC\u2019s employees, supporters, board members and partners have raised questions about the appropriateness of Alphonso David\u2019s actions and whether they align with HRC\u2019s decades\u2019 long mission of fighting for equality and justice for all.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The HRC\u2019s board of directors has retained Sidley Austin LLP to conduct an internal investigation into David\u2019s actions, the statement said. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/08\/04\/tara-reade-joe-biden-jen-psaki-metoo-andrew-cuomo\/\">(RELATED: Tara Reade Accuses Psaki Of \u2018Misleading The Public\u2019 By Saying Her Allegations Were \u2018Heavily Litigated During The Campaign\u2019)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" readability=\"7.6608187134503\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Statement from Morgan Cox and Jodie Patterson, Human Rights Campaign and Foundation Board Chairs <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/DliHiCIrSy\">pic.twitter.com\/DliHiCIrSy<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Human Rights Campaign (@HRC) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/HRC\/status\/1424736310846164998?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">August 9, 2021<\/a> <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cSidley Austin will report only to and work at the direction of the Boards of Directors in conducting a thorough investigation,\u201d the HRC board chairs continued. \u201cThe investigation will include consideration of whether Alphonso David\u2019s actions aligned with HRC\u2019s mission and values, as well as with professional and ethics standards.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis board-led investigation, with which David is cooperating, will take no longer than 30 days, and will help shed light on the events that unfolded and guide the Boards on any necessary next steps,\u201d the chairs said. \u201cThis investigation will in no way hinder the organizations\u2019 continued pursuit of the critical work necessary to bring equity and liberation to the LGBTQ+ Community.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The HRC extended David\u2019s contract for five more years on Tuesday, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.huffpost.com\/entry\/human-rights-campaign-alphonso-david-andrew-cuomo_n_610ac8e1e4b0b94f6077dec0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">according to the Huffington Post<\/a> \u2014 the same day Attorney General Letitia James announced the results of an investigation into Cuomo\u2019s conduct. The decision to extend his contract had already been in the works and only coincidentally occurred the same day that the report came out, the publication reported.<\/p>\n<p>HRC has not responded to many requests for comment from the Daily Caller News Foundation. David <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/migold\/status\/1424752989215109128\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">said Monday<\/a> that he fully endorses the investigation as \u201cmultiple inaccuracies have been circulating\u201d about his actions.<\/p>\n<p>David publicly called on Cuomo to resign in a Tuesday evening tweet following news that the investigation <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/08\/03\/new-york-attorney-general-letitia-james-andrew-cuomo-sexually-harassment-women\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">found<\/a> Cuomo \u201csexually harassed a number of State employees through unwelcome and unwanted touching, as well as by making numerous offensive and sexually suggestive comments\u201d and that this conduct \u201cwas part of a pattern of behavior that extended to his interactions with others outside of State government.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Cuomo&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/08\/03\/andrew-cuomo-lindsey-boylan-metoo-new-york\/\">denied Tuesday<\/a>&nbsp;that he ever inappropriately touched anyone, and said that those attacking him are discrediting \u201clegitimate\u201d victims of harassment.<\/p>\n<div id=\"piano-newsletter\" class=\"piano-newsletter\" readability=\"43.9352734571\">\n<p>David provided confidential files on Boylan to senior Cuomo advisers, participated in the drafting of a letter discrediting Boylan and sought out women to provide positive statements about the governor, according to the report. He also reportedly kept confidential files \u201crelating to his investigation into and counseling\u201d of Boylan before she left the executive chamber. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/08\/03\/cuomo-adviser-richard-azzopardi-lindsey-boylan\/\">(RELATED: Hours After #METOO Allegations Surfaced, Top Cuomo Adviser Released Oppo File On Accuser Lindsey Boylan To Media)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The report also said that David provided these files to Cuomo senior adviser Richard Azzopardi on Dec. 11, 2020, shortly after Boylan began tweeting about Cuomo.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMr. David testified that he kept with him a copy of Ms. Boylan\u2019s files because it \u2018may have been the only instance where [he] was actually involved in a counseling of an employee when [he] was in the Executive Chamber,\u2019\u201d the report said.&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/08\/03\/times-up-now-cuomo-resign\/\">(RELATED: Time\u2019s Up Now Calls For Cuomo To \u2018Immediately\u2019 Resign)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Cuomo senior staffer Melissa DeRosa, who resigned Sunday, told other staffers in a Dec. 16, 2020 text message that David had agreed to <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/08\/03\/cuomo-adviser-richard-azzopardi-lindsey-boylan\/\">sign a letter<\/a>&nbsp;attempting to discredit Boylan \u201cif we need him,\u201d according to the report. The report said that David had initially declined to sign the letter.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe various drafts of this letter included complaints against Ms. Boylan that were part of the Confidential Files,\u201d the investigation found. \u201cThe drafts also discussed alleged interactions between Ms. Boylan and male colleagues other than the Governor.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The report also said that the letter \u201cdenied the legitimacy of Ms. Boylan\u2019s allegations, impugned her credibility, and attacked her claims as politically motivated (including with theories about connections with supporters of President Trump and a politician with an alleged interest in running for Governor).\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Cuomo\u2019s officials internally argued over the contents of the letter, and it was ultimately not published, according to the report.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Content created by The Daily Caller News Foundation is available without charge to any eligible news publisher that can provide a large audience.
