Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), and Rep. Ayanna Pressley (D-MA) <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/citing-racial-inequality-schumer-asks-biden-to-flick-his-pen-and-cancel-50000-in-student-debt\"><span>pushed<\/span><\/a><span> Biden to extend repayment forgiveness \u2014 if not entirely cancel up to $50,000 of debt per borrower.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>In response, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/this-cpac-footage-is-nuts-progressives-blast-pelosi-for-saying-student-debt-forgiveness-is-a-bad-idea\"><span>argued<\/span><\/a><span> that although Biden can postpone repayments, he cannot cancel debt without approval from Congress.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Nevertheless, the Biden administration announced on Friday that federal borrowers will not need to complete payments for the next several months.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>A <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefing-room\/statements-releases\/2021\/08\/06\/statement-by-president-joe-biden-extending-the-pause-on-student-loan-repayment\/\"><span>statement<\/span><\/a><span> from the White House reads:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"16\">\n<p><i><span>As today\u2019s jobs numbers show, we have the tools that will allow us to beat COVID-19 and keep our economy recovering at a record rate. But we know there is more work to do and the road will still be long for many people \u2014 especially for the one in six adults and one in three young people who have federal student loans.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><i><span>That\u2019s why today, my administration is extending the pause on federal student loan repayments one final time until January 31, 2022. This will give the Department of Education and borrowers more time and more certainty as they prepare to restart student loan payments. It will also ensure a smoother transition that minimizes loan defaults and delinquencies that hurt families and undermine our economic recovery.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span>The announcement comes as the Biden administration faces <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/opinion-the-cdcs-eviction-moratorium-is-textbook-communism\"><span>criticism<\/span><\/a><span> for extending the federal government\u2019s eviction moratorium, which was enacted in September by President Trump. On Friday, President Biden <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/biden-who-knows-if-eviction-moratorium-is-constitutional-will-keep-this-going-for-a-while-anyway\"><span>indicated<\/span><\/a><span> that he was unsure of the constitutionality of the move, despite the fact that the Supreme Court ruled that the legislature \u2014 not the CDC \u2014 should issue any extension of the rule. Biden nevertheless said that the appeals process could \u201ckeep this going for a while.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Buddy Shoup \u2014 a landlord from North Carolina \u2014 recently <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/biden-eviction-moratorium-crushes-small-landlords-im-out-24k-while-tenants-buy-boats\"><span>told<\/span><\/a><span> Fox &amp; Friends that he is missing $24,000 in rental income while his tenants are \u201cbuying boats.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201c[The money] was used, they went and bought brand new boats, but I mean, you know in a time of crisis like what we\u2019ve been through, you\u2019re evidently getting money from somewhere, but it\u2019s not getting to me,\u201d Shoup said. \u201cIt goes way beyond the loss of rental income, we\u2019re still bound by county rules and laws.
