In a statement released on Saturday, party Chairwoman Jessica Millan Patterson announced delegates approved a motion to table an agenda item to make an endorsement.<\/p>\n<p>According to Patterson, the decision speaks to the strength of the field of GOP candidates running to replace Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-Calif.). She said the party is in an outstanding position headed into the election.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, the chairwoman named four candidates who had qualified to be considered for an endorsement, including conservative commentator Larry Elder and former mayor of San Diego Kevin Faulconer.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">\u201cToday\u2019s overwhelming decision by our delegates to offer no endorsement speaks to the strength of our field of candidates and the outstanding position our party is in going into the recall election.\u201d CAGOP Chairwoman <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/millanpatterson?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@millanpatterson<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/aXxP8cIJ0e\">pic.twitter.com\/aXxP8cIJ0e<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 CAGOP (@CAGOP) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/CAGOP\/status\/1424068586587312130?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">August 7, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>In the meantime, Faulconer recently called out Newsom for suggesting the recall election wasn\u2019t about his performance in office. During an interview published on Saturday, Faulconer said Newsom is trying to nationalize and partisanize the election.<\/p>\n<p>This comes after the Democrat implied to journalists on Thursday that the recall is an effort by the GOP to help their chances in the 2022 midterms.
