The GOP lawmakers asked Pelosi to call the House back in session to consider <a href=\"https:\/\/republicans-financialservices.house.gov\/news\/documentsingle.aspx?DocumentID=408018\">legislation<\/a> that would immediately provide funds directly to low-income tenants with rent debt accumulated through the pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cInstead of taking action to provide renters with the financial relief they need, Democrats sought to delay rather than solve the problem through another temporary and flawed federal eviction moratorium extension,\u201d the Republicans, led by committee Ranking Members Patrick McHenry and Cathy McMorris-Rodgers, wrote.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEvery Democrat should be ashamed of their failure to protect renters from the threat of eviction by eliminating the back rent they owe, which is a direct result of the House Democrats\u2019 decision to ignore regular order,\u201d the letter added. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/08\/05\/joe-biden-eviction-moratorium-cdc-washington-post\/\">(RELATED: \u2018Almost Certainly Illegal\u2019: Washington Post Editorial Board Slams Biden Eviction Moratorium)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/media\/releases\/2021\/s0803-cdc-eviction-order.html\">extended<\/a> the pandemic-era <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/08\/06\/bob-gibbs-letter-republicans-consider-impeachment-joe-biden-eviction-moratorium-border-crisis\/\">eviction moratorium<\/a>, which prohibits landlords evicting tenants who don\u2019t pay their monthly rent payment, for areas with high coronavirus transmission. In June, Justice Brett Kavanaugh <a href=\"https:\/\/www.supremecourt.gov\/opinions\/20pdf\/20a169_4f15.pdf\">said<\/a> the moratorium could stay in place until it expired on July 31, but an extension would need congressional approval.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" readability=\"12.534031413613\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Why is the eviction moratorium constitutional, I asked the president. Government lawyers argued that the new moratorium could be distinguished from the previous one Kavanaugh addressed since it was tailored to apply to some, not all regions.<\/p>\n<p>Many Democrats including Pelosi had <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/08\/02\/nancy-pelosi-house-democrats-eviction-moratorium-supreme-court-joe-biden-white-house\/\">pressured<\/a> the Biden administration to disregard Kavanaugh and extend the moratorium without congressional authorization.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBy enabling this abuse of power and showing a complete disregard for the rule of law, you have further weakened the House of Representatives as a separate but equal branch of the United States Government,\u201d the Republicans continued in their letter Friday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen the newly issued moratorium is inevitably struck down by the courts there will be even more confusion and uncertainty for renters and landlords across the country,\u201d they said. \u201cThis was entirely avoidable.\u201d <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/08\/05\/landlords-joe-biden-cdc-eviction-moratorium-lawsuit\/\">(RELATED: \u2018Not The Answer\u2019: Landlords Slam Biden\u2019s Eviction Moratorium Extension, Ask Federal Court To Intervene)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>McHenry and other Republicans have <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/07\/13\/janet-yellen-maxine-waters-patrick-mchenry\/\">repeatedly criticized<\/a> the Biden administration and Democrats for the alleged mismanagement of the Emergency Rental Assistance (ERA) program. The Treasury Department recently <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/07\/21\/treasury-department-emergency-rent-assistance-patrick-mchenry\/\">admitted<\/a> it has only distributed a small fraction of the $46.6 billion Congress appropriated to the ERA.<\/p>\n<p>The ERA was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hud.gov\/sites\/dfiles\/PIH\/documents\/ERAP_PIH_ERAP_FAQs.pdf\">introduced<\/a> to help delinquent renters pay off debt and avoid eviction.
