Arag\u00f3n, California\u2019s public health officer. It applies to employees who provide services at most healthcare settings, including hospitals, doctor\u2019s offices, skilled nursing facilities, adult day care centers, and hospice facilities.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs we continue to see an increase in cases and hospitalizations due to the Delta variant of COVID-19, it\u2019s important that we protect the vulnerable patients in these settings,\u201d said Arag\u00f3n in a statement. \u201cToday\u2019s action will also ensure that health care workers themselves are protected. Newsom\u2019s announcement last week mandating state employees and workers in healthcare or high-risk congregate atmospheres provide evidence of full vaccination or be subject to weekly COVID-19 testing. The change comes a day after Los Angeles County ordered 110,000 county workers to show proof of immunization no later than October 1, a directive Newsom described as \u201cthe right move.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Related: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/executive-order-requires-110000-los-angeles-county-employees-to-show-proof-of-full-covid-19-vax\">Executive Order Requires 110,000 Los Angeles County Employees To Show Proof Of Full COVID-19 Vax<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) issued a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdph.ca.gov\/Programs\/CID\/DCDC\/Pages\/COVID-19\/Order-of-the-State-Public-Health-Officer-Requirements-for-Visitors-in-Acute-Health-Care-and-Long-Term-Care-Settings.aspx\">second order<\/a> on Thursday directing hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, and intermediate care facilities to verify visitors are fully vaccinated or tested negative for coronavirus 72 hours before indoor visits.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/california\/story\/2021-08-05\/california-healthcare-workers-vaccine-mandate\">More details<\/a> from The Los Angeles Times:<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"14\">\n<p><em>The new order largely removes the testing option and allows only limited religious or medical exemptions from the vaccine requirement.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Employees who are exempted would have to be tested regularly \u2014 twice a week if they work in acute or long-term care facilities and once a week in other healthcare settings.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Unvaccinated employees would also have to wear a surgical mask or respirator, such as an N95, while inside a facility.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Some local health officials are apprehensive about the new requirements \u2014 officials such as Gary Herbst, the CEO of Kaweah Health in Tulare County.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have cause for great concern, frankly,\u201d Herbst said <a href=\"https:\/\/abc30.com\/covid-19-vaccine-health-care-works-california-department-of-mandate\/10933861\/\">during an interview<\/a> with Fresno\u2019s ABC 30 Action News.<\/p>\n<p>The outlet reported that 57% of the healthcare organization\u2019s medical staff of approximately 700 are vaccinated.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are many health care workers that do not want to be vaccinated and my greatest fear now is that they will leave,\u201d Herbst continued. \u201cThey will either leave the profession altogether, or they will leave the state of California and go to a nearby state.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to CDPH, \u201cCalifornia is leading the nation in vaccinations, with more than 45 million doses administered and 76.7 percent of the eligible population having at least one dose.\u201d However, the department added the state had experienced a recent rise in infections and hospitalizations among mostly unvaccinated people attributed primarily to the Delta variant.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Related: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/deputy-sheriffs-union-pushes-back-against-l-a-county-executive-order-requiring-proof-of-full-covid-19-vax\">Deputy Sheriffs Union Pushes Back Against L.A.
