County Board of Supervisors, announced the new requirement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cALADS saw Supervisor Solis\u2019 tweet last night notifying 110,000 county employees that they will be required to receive a COVID-19,\u201d the union said in the statement. \u201cSupervisor Solis\u2019 announcement via Twitter was a prime example of the lack of professionalism we have come to expect from her office.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\" readability=\"6.5454545454545\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">My statement on issuing an Executive Order to Require All LA County Employees to Be Vaccinated Against COVID-19. ALADS said its lawyers were reviewing the order and \u201cis asserting its bargaining rights over her decision.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur legal team is prepared to meet with the County and the Sheriff\u2019s Department regarding Supervisor Solis\u2019 executive order and to defend the rights of our members,\u201d it continued.<\/p>\n<p>ALADS President James Wheeler sent a separate letter to Solis on Thursday requesting that her representatives contact him to schedule negotiation sessions.<\/p>\n<p>Solis and other elected officials on the five-member Board of Supervisors have been feuding with Sheriff Alex Villanueva over multiple issues, including civilian oversight over the department and homelessness.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Related: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/l-a-sheriff-calls-progressives-in-charge-of-l-a-s-homeless-policies-the-architects-of-failure\">L.A. County CEO \u201cto work collaboratively\u201d with law enforcement unions \u201cto encourage vaccinations.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\" readability=\"5.9090909090909\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">We encourage the <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/LACountyBOS?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@LACountyBOS<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/LACountyCEO?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@LACountyCEO<\/a> to work collaboratively with the <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/LASDHQ?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@LASDHQ<\/a> unions to encourage vaccinations. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/5o3EC1nNO1\">https:\/\/t.co\/5o3EC1nNO1<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Alex Villanueva (@LACoSheriff) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/LACoSheriff\/status\/1423361666826129408?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">August 5, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>In Wheeler\u2019s letter to Solis, he wrote that the union and Villanueva \u201chave been engaged in the meet and confer process over the Sheriff\u2019s proposal that ALADS members either be vaccinated or receive negative weekly tests for COVID-19.\u201d Wheeler asked Solis for clarification on whether her order supersedes the authority of Villanueva to negotiate a \u201cvaccination or test\u201d policy.<\/p>\n<p>Solis said on Wednesday that the order is necessary because of \u201cthe rapid spread of the Delta variant,\u201d adding, \u201cas vaccinations continue at a pace slower than what is necessary to slow the spread, the need for immediate action is great.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The directive requires county workers to provide evidence of immunization no later than October 1. Solis said the deadline \u201cgives our employees the time they need to consult with their healthcare providers.\u201d There are limited exceptions for medical and religious purposes.<\/p>\n<p>California Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom called the county mandate \u201cthe right move.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As The Daily Wire previously reported, the order was announced after county health authorities confirmed 3,734 new coronavirus cases on Wednesday and said 16 more people diagnosed with the malady had died.
