We have been clear about this for months, so there should be no confusion,\u201d Zucker wrote in the internal memo.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn the past week, we have been made aware of three employees who were coming to the office unvaccinated. All three have been terminated,\u201d Zucker wrote. \u201cLet me be clear \u2014 we have a zero-tolerance policy on this.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>CNN\u2019s termination of the three employees is one of the first examples of a major company firing workers who violated the company\u2019s vaccination mandate, the <em>Times<\/em> reported. Details on the fired employees, such as their names, which departments they were in, or how their vaccination status came to light, were not covered in the memo.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\" readability=\"9.2857142857143\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">CNN terminated &#8220;three employees who were coming to the office unvaccinated,&#8221; per memo from Jeff Zucker. &#8220;We have a zero-tolerance policy on this.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Michael M. Grynbaum (@grynbaum) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/grynbaum\/status\/1423360780829925377?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">August 5, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cThus far, we have left proof of vaccination to an honor system,\u201d the memo said, noting that CNN has so far not required employees to produce a vaccine card in order to come into the office.<\/p>\n<p>Zucker\u2019s memo warned that \u201cin the weeks ahead, showing proof of vaccination may become a formal part of the WarnerMedia Passcard process.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRegardless, our expectations remain in place,\u201d Zucker added.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou need to be vaccinated to come to the office. And you need to be vaccinated to work in the field, with other employees, regardless of whether you enter an office or not. Period.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>CNN\u2019s president encouraged all employees who are ready to return to in-person work to do so. More than a third of CNN\u2019s domestic employees are already back in the office, Zucker said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think it is fair to say that we are all feeling a mix of anticipation, anxiety, frustration, confusion, and exasperation. All of that is to be expected. We all have decisions to make that impact so many aspects of our lives. I get it. If nothing else, the resilience and perseverance you all have shown for 18 months now needs to continue a little bit longer. But we will get there. Continue to take care of yourselves and each other. And I will share more updates just as soon as we have them,\u201d the memo concluded.<\/p>\n<p>Many major companies including Facebook, Google, Disney, and Walmart have announced that employees must be vaccinated in order to return to in-person work.
