County employs approximately 110,000 people, most of whom must provide evidence of immunization no later than October 1. There are limited exceptions for medical and religious purposes. With more than ten million residents, L.A. is the nation\u2019s most populous county.<\/p>\n<p>In a <a href=\"https:\/\/hildalsolis.org\/chair-hilda-l-solis-statement-issuing-executive-order-require-all-la-county-employees-to-be-vaccinated-against-covid-19\/\">statement<\/a>, Solis referenced \u201cthe rapid spread of the Delta variant,\u201d adding, \u201cas vaccinations continue at a pace slower than what is necessary to slow the spread, the need for immediate action is great.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are once again demonstrating to employers across the County that we are prepared to lead by example and set a standard for slowing the spread \u2013 just as we did when reinstating indoor masking, which has since been emulated by varying degrees by the CDC, the State, and localities across the country,\u201d the statement continued.<\/p>\n<p>On Thursday morning, California Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/GavinNewsom\/status\/1423278074515247107\">called<\/a> the requirement \u201cthe right move.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\" readability=\"6.5454545454545\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">My statement on issuing an Executive Order to Require All LA County Employees to Be Vaccinated Against COVID-19. In addition, daily hospitalizations continue to increase, officials said, noting that 1,242 patients were currently admitted with COVID-19.<\/p>\n<p>Solis pointed out that when the county re-opened on June 15, there were 210 confirmed coronavirus cases, and fewer than 220 people were hospitalized.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur daily cases have increased nearly eighteen-fold and hospitalizations more than five-fold,\u201d Solis said. \u201cWe cannot wait another day as this virus continues to upend and dramatically alter the lives of our residents.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She said the October deadline \u201cgives our employees the time they need to consult with their healthcare providers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As Chair of the Board of Supervisors, the <a href=\"https:\/\/hildalsolis.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/Executive-Order-COVID-19-Vaccines-for-LACo-Employees.pdf\">order<\/a> says Solis has the power \u201cto promulgate orders and regulations necessary to provide for the protection of life or property\u201d during a proclaimed local emergency.<\/p>\n<p>Last month, the city of L.A. and the state of California announced new requirements for all state employees to show proof of full COVID-19 vaccination by August 2 or be subject to weekly testing. Solis\u2019 order did not include a regular testing option.<\/p>\n<p>Los Angeles City Attorney Mike Feuer issued a letter to Solis on Tuesday asking the Board of Supervisors \u201cto require proof of vaccination for certain indoor activities\u201d in L.A. County.<\/p>\n<p>Two Democrats on the L.A.
