Jerry Brown to release her brother from prison and allowing Mohammed Nuru, the disgraced former head of Public Works, to pay for repairs to a car she owned.\u201d The outlet reported, \u201cThe proposed fine, first obtained by The Chronicle on Tuesday, is part of an agreement stating that Breed\u2019s violations were \u2018significant,\u2019 involving the misuse of her title as mayor for personal gain.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile nothing stipulated here had any effect on my decision-making as mayor, it is important that as mayor that I lead by example and take responsibility for my actions,\u201d Breed said in a Tuesday statement provided to The Chronicle. \u201cI\u2019ve learned a lot over the last two years since the most recent of these events took place, and I\u2019ve learned from this process.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Chronicle analyzed records from the Ethics Commission. It determined Breed \u201cappears to be the first sitting mayor in San Francisco to settle such a case,\u201d noting that \u201cit\u2019s not unusual for city supervisors and candidates to be hit with fines.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Breed will pay the fine if the Ethics Commission approves the agreement at its next meeting on August 13.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\" readability=\"8.1025641025641\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">San Francisco Mayor Breed to be fined nearly $23,000 for series of &#8216;significant&#8217; ethics violations while in office <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/KNUJArS8N5\">https:\/\/t.co\/KNUJArS8N5<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 San Francisco Chronicle (@sfchronicle) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/sfchronicle\/status\/1422722435435175940?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">August 4, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The settlement comes almost three years after Breed and other family members sent a letter to then-Gov. Brown asking him to commute the prison sentence of her older brother, Napoleon Brown. He was sentenced to 44 years for involuntary manslaughter and armed robbery related to a 2000 death on the Golden Gate Bridge.<\/p>\n<p>According to The Chronicle, \u201cBreed\u2019s letter used what appeared to be personal stationery that featured \u2018Mayor London Breed\u2019 in block letters at the top\u201d and \u201cshe mentioned her status as the city\u2019s mayor in the body of the letter.\u201d The Ethics Commission concluded the letter was a misuse of Breed\u2019s city title and imposed a $2,500 fine for the violation. Brown did not grant a pardon, and Breed\u2019s brother remains in prison.<\/p>\n<p>Another violation involves Mohammed Nuru, the former Public Works director, whom the FBI charged with fraud in 2019.<\/p>\n<p>The Los Angeles Times <a href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/california\/newsletter\/2021-08-04\/mayor-breed-san-francisco-ethics-violations-essential-california\">reported<\/a>, \u201cBreed has agreed to pay $8,292 for accepting a gift \u2014 about $5,600 in car repairs \u2014 from Nuru, whom she acknowledged dating \u201cfor a brief time, two decades ago\u201d in an explosive February 2020 Medium post.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn the post, she said she wasn\u2019t required to disclose the repairs, citing a city law that said gifts provided \u2018by an individual with whom the official has a long term, close personal friendship unrelated to the official\u2019s position\u2019 don\u2019t need to be reported under the Fair Political Practices Commission\u2019s rules,\u201d The Times reported. \u201cThe Ethics Commission didn\u2019t agree.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A third ethics violation centers around failing to properly report campaign finance disclosures when Breed was a member of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors in 2015 and running for re-election. According to The Times, \u201cShe wanted to have a float for the city\u2019s Pride parade and asked two restaurateurs to each pay $1,250 directly to the float manufacturer.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The contributions also exceeded the $500 limit per donor for city candidates.<\/p>\n<p>According to The Chronicle, \u201cThe mayor will be fined $7,500 for failing to disclose the contributions and $4,500 for accepting contributions over the legal limit.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>The Daily Wire is one of America\u2019s fastest-growing conservative media companies and counter-cultural outlets for news, opinion, and entertainment.
