But the conversation took a turn when Marchese suggested that politically incorrect material shouldn\u2019t appear in fictional series.<\/p>\n<p>On the topic of \u2018Game of Thrones,\u2019 the massive hit that helped put Momoa on the map, Marchese said, \u201cI don\u2019t know how much you followed any of this, but [the show] inspired a lot of discussion about its depiction of scenes of sexual assault and its treatment of women generally.\u201d He then asked, \u201cDo you think differently today about those scenes? Would you do one now? Do you have any regrets?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Momoa answered the question, saying:<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"14\">\n<p><em>Well, it was important to depict Drogo and his style. You\u2019re playing someone that\u2019s like Genghis Khan. It was a really, really, really hard thing to do. But my job was to play something like that, and it\u2019s not a nice thing, and it\u2019s what that character was. It\u2019s not my job to go, \u201cWould I not do it?\u201d I\u2019ve never really been questioned about \u201cDo you regret playing a role?\u201d We\u2019ll put it this way: I already did it. Not doing it again.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>After that point, however, the 42-year-old\u2019s answers turned terse and seemed to convey irritation toward Marchese.<\/p>\n<p>Along with offering one-word responses, when Marchese asked if Momoa could share a memory from the time when he was traveling the world, Momoa answered, \u201cNot really for you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>At the conclusion of the interview, after Marchese said, \u201cOkay, I guess we\u2019re done,\u201d Momoa took the opportunity to express his frustrations with what he seemed to perceive as a \u201cgotcha\u201d question.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYeah, and I wanted to bring something up that left a bad feeling in my stomach,\u201d he said. \u201cWhen you brought up \u2018Game of Thrones,\u2019 you brought up stuff about what\u2019s happening with my character and would I do it again.\u201d Momoa continued, \u201cI was bummed when you asked me that. It just feels icky \u2014 putting it upon me to remove something. As if an actor even had the choice to do that. We\u2019re not really allowed to do anything. There are producers, there are writers, there are directors, and you don\u2019t get to come in and be like, \u2018I\u2019m not going do that because this isn\u2019t kosher right now and not right in the political climate.\u201d That never happens. So it\u2019s a question that feels icky. I just wanted you to know that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Commenters on the article mostly sided with Momoa. One from Washington D.C. said, \u201cKudos to Momoa for calling out the interviewer. Are we retrofitting literature to make movies safe for progressive sensibilities? I\u2019d like to think the Times is more sophisticated than that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In one of the most recommended comments, another reader observed, \u201cThe retrospective woke prisim of the Khal [Drogo] question was insufferable.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>And one commenter from New York appeared to express the feelings of many when he replied, \u201cEmbarrassingly clumsy work by Marchese. Kudos to Momoa for not putting up with it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In 2019, before he joined the outlet, the Times <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2019\/02\/15\/reader-center\/talk-column-david-marchese.html\">profiled<\/a> Marchese, calling him a \u201cmaster interviewer\u201d and highlighting his unique ability to \u201c[create] rapport with big-name subjects.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Perhaps Marchese needs a refresher course.<\/p>\n<p><em>The Daily Wire is one of America\u2019s fastest-growing conservative media companies and counter-cultural outlets for news, opinion, and entertainment.
