The DOJ alleged the law discriminated against black voters by infringing on their right to vote, with President Joe Biden <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/04\/20\/burgess-owens-jim-crow-democratic-party-georgia-election-law-judiciary-committee-hearing-voting-rights\/\"><u>comparing<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;the act to Jim Crow laws.<\/p>\n<p>The lawmakers, who filed the <a href=\"https:\/\/storage.courtlistener.com\/recap\/gov.uscourts.gand.291671\/gov.uscourts.gand.291671.43.1.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">brief<\/a> with Jay Sekulow, chief counsel at the American Center for Law and Justice, argued the law did not infringe on voting rights and was non-discriminatory, and urged the court to dismiss the Justice Department\u2019s complaint. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/07\/09\/byron-donalds-doj-georgia-lawsuit-merrick-garland-letter\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: EXCLUSIVE: Rep. Rick Allen, one of the lawmakers who filed the brief, told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/house-republicans-doj-lawsuit-georgia-election-law-amicus-brief?utm_source=dlvr.it&amp;utm_medium=twitter\"><u>Fox News<\/u><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The DOJ\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/opa\/press-release\/file\/1406456\/download\"><u>complaint<\/u><\/a> challenges several provisions of the Georgia election law, including certain voter identification requirements, absentee voting procedures, and limits on ballot drop boxes. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/04\/12\/formula-media-coverage-georgias-election-bill\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: There\u2019s A Formula For Media Coverage Of Georgia\u2019s Election Bill, And We Broke It Down)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Several House Republicans, led by Ohio Rep. Bob Gibbs and Georgia Rep. Buddy Carter, had sent a letter to Attorney General Merrick Garland in July <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/07\/14\/bob-gibbs-buddy-carter-merrick-garland-georgia-lawsuit\/\"><u>urging<\/u><\/a> the Justice Department to drop the complaint.<\/p>\n<p>Among the 57 Republican lawmakers who signed on to the brief are Reps.
