Cindy Axne (D-IA) was asked about inflation at a campaign stop in early July, and according to Real Clear Politics\u2019 Susan Crabtree, the question left the congresswoman nervous.<\/p>\n<p>The constituent asked: \u201cI just wanted to ask, are you concerned about the rising gas prices and the rise in the cost of consumer goods here in Iowa and in America?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>After growing \u201cserious,\u201d Axne responded.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou know what, here\u2019s the deal: They\u2019re comparing costs against last year,\u201d she said. \u201cI\u2019d say that we\u2019ve had a few things increase because we were in the middle of COVID, so no, I\u2019m not concerned about false advertisement.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Just before this exchange took place, Crabtree <a href=\"https:\/\/www.realclearpolitics.com\/articles\/2021\/08\/02\/dems_brace_for_inflation_attacks_during_august_recess_146176.html\">reported<\/a>, Republicans ran an extensive digital media campaign over the July 4<sup>th<\/sup> holiday weekend. The ads targeted Axne and 10 other vulnerable Democratic congressmen, blaming them for the rising costs of \u201cburgers, buns, propane and gas.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis year, your Fourth of July is more expensive because Democrats\u2019 harmful economic policies are making everyday goods cost more,\u201d the ad said. It also urged viewers to call Axne or one of the other Democrats and tell them \u201cWe can\u2019t afford this.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Two days after the ads ran, Axne told a Des Moines television station that \u201cWe\u2019re not even remotely close to a point to say that we\u2019re at rising inflation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Axne instead argued that American should \u201cwait \u2019til we have an actual, an expert, who says that\u2019s what\u2019s happening. \u2026 Right now, we\u2019ve been able to, you know, keep inflation from being a big issue.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Other Democrats have also tried to downplay inflation, as Crabtree noted. President Joe Biden recently claimed: \u201cThe overwhelming consensus is it\u2019s going to pop up and little bit and then go back down.\u201d Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee chairman Rep. Sean Maloney (D-NY) also tried to dismiss concerns about inflation, comparing it to turning on the water after a pipe had frozen.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou turn them back on for the first time \u2014 it coughs and spits a little bit,\u201d he said in mid-July.<\/p>\n<p>The problem with Democrats claiming inflation isn\u2019t a big concern and is just temporary, is that the U.S. Department of Commerce\u2019s Bureau of Economic Analysis recently released information showing a key inflation metric had risen to its highest level in 30 years. As The Daily Wire <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/benchmark-inflation-measure-hits-highest-level-in-30-years\">reported<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"11.187969924812\">\n<p><em>According to the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bea.gov\/news\/2021\/personal-income-and-outlays-june-2021-and-annual-update\">Bureau of Economic Analysis<\/a>, the Personal Consumption Expenditures Price Index \u2014 which the Federal Reserve uses as a key guide for monetary policy decisions \u2014 has risen 4% between June 2020 and June 2021.&nbsp;<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Factoring out food and energy costs \u2014 which rose by 24.2% and 0.9% respectively \u2014 the metric saw a 3.5% increase, therefore reaching its highest level since July 1991.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The Bureau of Labor Statistics also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/thanks-to-inflation-american-wages-drop-by-nearly-2\">showed<\/a> that \u201caverage hourly earnings\u201d in the U.S. rose year-over-year by 3.6%, but when considering the Consumer Price Index to show inflation, \u201creal average hourly earnings\u201d have actually fallen by 1.7% since last year.<\/p>\n<p>Also, Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell <a href=\"https:\/\/www.realclearpolitics.com\/video\/2021\/07\/28\/fed_chair_jerome_powell_inflation_could_turn_out_to_be_higher_and_more_persistent_than_we_expect.html\">said<\/a> last week that inflation \u201ccould turn out to be higher and more persistent than we expected.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>The Daily Wire is one of America\u2019s fastest-growing conservative media companies and counter-cultural outlets for news, opinion, and entertainment.
