Marjorie Taylor Greene said, \u201cJesus loves the U.S. most and that is why the Bible is written in English.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><span><strong>Verdict: False<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>There is no record of Greene saying the quote attributed to her. The statement has previously been attributed to other politicians.<\/p>\n<p><span><strong>Fact Check:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Greene, a Republican who represents Georgia\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.govtrack.us\/congress\/members\/GA\/14\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">14th congressional district<\/a>, has previously made controversial statements and voiced support for conspiracy theories, the <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/donald-trump-technology-las-vegas-mass-shooting-media-social-media-700f28747d856a9bad22a59674a9afe6\">Associated Press<\/a> reported. In July, Greene said that it was \u201csegregation\u201d for businesses to exclude unvaccinated individuals, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2021\/07\/26\/marjorie-taylor-greene-unvaccinated-people-segregation-500734\">Politico<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Now, a July 26 Facebook post shared over 300 times alleges Greene said the reason the Bible was written in English was because \u201cJesus loves the U.S. most.\u201d Greene did not, however, make such a statement.<\/p>\n<p>Check Your Fact reviewed Greene\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/mtgreenee\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">verified<\/a>&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/repmtg?lang=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">social media<\/a>&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/RepMTGreene\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">accounts<\/a>&nbsp;for the alleged statement, but found no matches. Nor did the remark appear in ProPublica\u2019s&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/projects.propublica.org\/politwoops\/user\/mtgreenee\">archive<\/a> of Greene\u2019s deleted tweets. A search of her&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/greene.house.gov\/media\/press-releases\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">press releases<\/a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/greene.house.gov\/search?search_api_fulltext=jesus+bible+english\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">congressional website<\/a> likewise showed no instances of Greene saying \u201cJesus loves the U.S. most and that is why the Bible is written in English.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/search?q=%7B%22source%22%3A%22congrecord%22%2C%22search%22%3A%22%5C%22Jesus%20loves%20the%20U.S.%20most%20and%20that%20is%20why%20the%20Bible%20is%20written%20in%20English.%5C%22%22%7D\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">congressional record<\/a>&nbsp;has no record of Greene making the statement attributed to her in the Facebook post, either. The Old Testament of the Bible was originally written mostly in Hebrew, and the New Testament was originally written in Greek and Aramaic, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.britannica.com\/topic\/biblical-translation\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Encyclopedia Britannica<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Similar iterations of the quotation have been attributed to other politicians for years. For example, the statement, \u201cJesus loves America the most. That\u2019s why the Bible is written in English,\u201d was falsely attributed to former Republican Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann in 2014, according to <a href=\"http:\/\/wafflesatnoon.com\/michele-bachmann-english-bible\/\">Waffles At Noon<\/a>. Barry Popik, an etymologist, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.barrypopik.com\/index.php\/new_york_city\/entry\/if_english_was_good_enough_for_jesus_its_good_enough_for_texas\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">found<\/a> that a similar quote was also attributed to former Texas Gov.
