Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) said that abortion is essential for the \u201cfunctioning of our democracy.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>In an <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.teenvogue.com\/story\/elizabeth-warren-voting-rights-filibuster-abortion\"><span>interview<\/span><\/a><span> with Teen Vogue \u2014 an outlet marketed as \u201cthe young person\u2019s guide to conquering (and saving) the world\u201d \u2014 Warren argued that opposing election reform bills and killing preborn children are intertwined.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cDo you feel like voting rights and abortion rights are really the key issues to making sure that the freedoms of voters and people in this country are protected?\u201d asked Teen Vogue.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cBoth voting and access to abortion are basic. They\u2019re about the functioning of our democracy and about the protection of personal autonomy,\u201d Warren replied. \u201cProtection of the vote means your voice gets heard in government. Protection of access to basic health care means your autonomy as a human being is fully respected by the law. That you will make the decisions about yourself.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cTo me, that\u2019s part of the heart of what all of this is about. This is where the two big fights are shaping up right now,\u201d she continued. \u201cAnd each intersects with the other. Both from the perspective of respect for the individual, and also from a political point of view. The right-wing extremists know that if they can keep people from voting, they\u2019ve got a better chance to impose their views about abortion on an unwilling nation.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Warren justified her argument by pointing to a 2018 poll showing that 71% of Americans support the Supreme Court\u2019s opinion in <\/span><i><span>Roe v. Wade<\/span><\/i><span> \u2014 the 1973 case in which the Court claimed that abortion is protected under the Fourteenth Amendment.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cIt is a small but intensely focused group of people who want to impose their will on the majority of this nation,\u201d she added. \u201cThis is a Republican Party that now openly admits that their only chance to hang on to power is to keep a substantial number of American citizens from voting. And why is that so? Because what they want to do is not popular with Democrats or Republicans.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Warren has a long <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.boston.com\/news\/politics\/2017\/01\/20\/elizabeth-warren-wore-a-planned-parenthood-scarf-to-trumps-inauguration\/\"><span>history<\/span><\/a><span> of vocally promoting abortion. At President Trump\u2019s 2017 inauguration, for example, she wore a pink scarf to signal support of <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/5-disturbing-insights-from-planned-parenthoods-annual-report\"><span>Planned Parenthood<\/span><\/a><span> \u2014 an organization that carried out over 354,000 abortions last year.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Warren\u2019s comments emerge as several anti-abortion groups <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/abortion-abolition-groups-urge-supreme-court-to-overturn-roe-v-wade\"><span>file<\/span><\/a><span> amicus briefs \u2014 documents that tell the Supreme Court about matters not yet brought to its attention \u2014 encouraging the overturning of <\/span><i><span>Roe v. Wade<\/span><\/i><span> through the <\/span><i><span>Dobbs v.
