Kyrsten Sinema and Ohio Republican Sen. Rob Portman led negotiations on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.epw.senate.gov\/public\/_cache\/files\/e\/a\/ea1eb2e4-56bd-45f1-a260-9d6ee951bc96\/F8A7C77D69BE09151F210EB4DFE872CD.edw21a09.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">2,702-page bill<\/a>, titled the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. The public works package allocates billions for roads, bridges, ports, broadband and more, and is the result of months of negotiations among 22 senators and President Joe Biden.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe know that this has been a long and sometimes difficult process, but we are proud this evening to announce this legislation, and we look forward very much to working with our colleagues in a collaborative and open way over the coming days to work through this historic investment in infrastructure,\u201d Sinema said on the Senate floor.<\/p>\n<p>Portman also lauded the bill on the floor, commending his bipartisan group for \u201cgetting it right tonight for the American people, for the economy and for the future of our great country.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Senate was in session on both Saturday and Sunday as senators worked to finalize the bill\u2019s text. Though <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/07\/30\/bipartisan-infrastructure-bill-clears-senate-vote-chuck-schumer-mitch-mcconnell\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">66 senators voted to officially begin debate<\/a> on the bill on Friday, negotiators hit several last minute hiccups that delayed its official introduction to Sunday night.<\/p>\n<p>Talks earlier in the week appeared in <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/07\/26\/infrastructure-joe-biden-pat-toomey-chuck-schumer-rob-portman\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">serious jeopardy<\/a>, but Portman on Wednesday announced that the group had <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/07\/28\/senators-resolved-major-issues-infrastructure-rob-portman-chuck-schumer\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">agreed on \u201cmajor issues\u201d<\/a> and was prepared to move forward. (Alex Wong\/Getty Images)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Multiple senators, including Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, are optimistic that they will be able to pass the bill this week, before the Senate is scheduled to depart Washington, D.C., for its August recess.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the bill\u2019s bipartisan support, some conservatives immediately objected to its size and scope.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve got real concerns about this bill. A lot of them,\u201d said Utah Republican Sen. Mike Lee at the beginning of an extended floor speech. \u201cThis body has no business passing this legislation in a matter of just a few days \u2026 We at least need a few weeks.\u201d&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/07\/29\/donald-trump-erupts-republicans-move-forward-bipartisan-infrastructure-deal-joe-biden\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Trump Erupts After Republicans Move Forward With Bipartisan Infrastructure Deal)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>While the bill appears to have enough support to pass the Senate, its path to Biden\u2019s desk is far from guaranteed. Some progressives have <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/06\/24\/ilhan-omar-nancy-pelosi-joe-biden-bernie-sanders-elizabeth-warren-american-jobs-plan-chuck-schumer\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">tied their support<\/a> for the bipartisan bill to Democrats\u2019 proposed <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/07\/14\/democrats-chuck-schumer-bernie-sanders-infrastructure-budget-reconciliation-plan\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">$3.5 trillion reconciliation package<\/a>, which Republicans unanimously oppose and about which several moderates have shown concern.<\/p>\n<p>Democrats also have just a three-seat margin in the House, meaning that minimal progressive defections could tank the bipartisan package.<\/p>\n<p>Content created by The Daily Caller News Foundation is available without charge to any eligible news publisher that can provide a large audience.
