Notably, before the game, all 22 players&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/news\/article-9809815\/US-Team-GB-womens-football-teams-knee-opening-Olympic-Games-matches.html?ito=social-twitter_mailonline\">took a knee<\/a> in solidarity with the radical leftist group Black Lives Matter before the game, a major point of contention with U.S. fans.<\/p>\n<p>As <a href=\"https:\/\/sports.yahoo.com\/olympics-soccer-players-kneel-uswnt-090330888.html\">noted<\/a> by Yahoo!Sports, athletes at the Tokyo Olympics were given space to protest before games and events. Team USA knelt before their kickoff, just as players on Sweden\u2019s women\u2019s team did:<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"12\">\n<p><em>The U.S. women\u2019s national team and other soccer teams knelt before kickoff of their Olympic openers on Wednesday, the first demonstrations under slightly relaxed restrictions on protest at the Games. <\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>The demonstrations were pre-planned, as they have been before various international soccer matches for over a year now as collective statements against racism and other forms of discrimination.&nbsp;<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Canada is rather \u201cwoke,\u201d too. One of the team\u2019s players identifies as transgender.
