During an interview on Sunday, Dr. Sharon Alroy-Preis refuted claims that new COVID cases were driven by unvaccinated people.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are seeing about 50% of the people who are infected right now are vaccinated, fully vaccinated individuals,\u201d she stated. \u201cPreviously, we thought that vaccinated, fully vaccinated individuals are protected.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">WATCH: Statement by Prime Minister Naftali Bennett regarding administering a third dose of the COVID Vaccine to Israeli citizens over the age of 60. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/i0wEk88ZoY\">pic.twitter.com\/i0wEk88ZoY<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 PM of Israel (@IsraeliPM) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/IsraeliPM\/status\/1420817996105277443?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">July 29, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The Israeli government has introduced booster shots for its population by landing new multi-billion dollar contracts for vaccine manufacturers. Alroy-Preis has called for a repeat vaccination of the vaccinated.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo we\u2019ve just started the booster shot.
