On Saturday, she capped off her Tokyo Olympics in impressive fashion.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Ledecky won her third consecutive gold medal in the women\u2019s 800-meter freestyle, defeating Australian rival Ariarne Titmus by 1.26 seconds. Ledecky is the first swimmer to win gold in the event at three consecutive Olympics.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Entering the event, there were some that were unsure if the 800-meter freestyle would be the last time we would see Ledecky competing on the Olympic stage. Ledecky quickly put the thought to rest as soon as the race came to an end.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cThat was not my last swim,\u201d Ledecky <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2021\/07\/31\/katie-ledecky-says-shell-be-back-for-2024-olympics\/\"><span>told<\/span><\/a><span> NBC with a laugh. \u201cI\u2019m at least going to \u201924, maybe \u201928. We\u2019ll see. You never take anything for granted. You don\u2019t know if you\u2019re gonna be back at the next Olympics, so you just try to soak it all in.\u201d&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\" readability=\"7.4581673306773\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">&#8220;That was NOT my last swim. And I hope that I can keep up and stay competitive here moving forward.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cI really just wanted to end on a really good note,\u201d she <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2021\/07\/30\/sports\/olympics\/katie-ledecky-caeleb-dressel-medals.html\"><span>said<\/span><\/a><span>. \u201cI just knew it would just linger with me if I ended on a bad note, so I just tried to use that as motivation to finish on the best stone possible.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Right as Ledecky was getting ready to hop in the pool, the bad news arrived.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Simone Biles will not be competing in the event finals for vault and the uneven bars on Sunday.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cToday, after further consultation with medical staff, Simone Biles has decided to withdraw from the event finals for vault and the uneven bars,\u201d U.S.A Gymnastics <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/olympics\/story\/_\/id\/31924094\/simone-biles-withdraws-vault-uneven-bars-summer-olympics\"><span>said<\/span><\/a><span> in a statement. \u201cShe will continue to be evaluated daily to determine whether to compete in the finals for floor exercise and balance beam.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\" readability=\"9.6920731707317\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">After further consultation with medical staff, Simone Biles has decided to withdraw from the event finals for vault and the uneven bars. Biles also withdrew from Thursday\u2019s all-around individual event, putting America\u2019s gold-medal streak in the event in jeopardy.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Fortunately, Biles is not the only women\u2019s gymnast participating in the 2020 Olympics who is capable of finishing at the top of the world.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Sunisa Lee stepped up in a big way on Thursday, taking home gold in the women\u2019s individual all-around event.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Lee <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/stepping-up-suni-lee-wins-gold-for-america-after-simone-biles-pulls-out-of-competition\">became<\/a> the fifth-straight <\/span><span>American woman to take home gold in the all-around competition, following in the footsteps of Carly Patterson, Nastia Liukin, Gabby Douglas, and Biles.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Lee will be competing in the women\u2019s uneven bar finals on Sunday, an event in which she thrives.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>For Biles, what has been an extremely disappointing Olympics is not yet over. She is scheduled to compete in the women\u2019s individual floor exercise and balance beam next week, though her participation is very much in doubt.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Biles is said to be suffering from the \u201ctwisties,\u201d a term used by gymnasts to describe when they get lost in the air. The condition can cause serious injury.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cWe remain in awe of Simone, who continues to handle this situation with courage and grace, and all of the athletes who have stepped up during these unexpected circumstances,\u201d USAG <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/olympics\/story\/_\/id\/31924094\/simone-biles-withdraws-vault-uneven-bars-summer-olympics\"><span>said<\/span><\/a><span> in the statement.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i>Joe Morgan is the Sports Reporter for The Daily Wire.
