It isn\u2019t about any more money \u2014 the money is there, resting in localities and governors\u2019 offices across the country,\u201d Pelosi <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/house\/565634-pelosi-calls-on-cdc-to-extend-eviction-moratorium-unilaterally\"><span class=\"s1\">said<\/span><\/a> Friday morning during a news briefing in the Capitol. \u201cSo we would like the CDC to expand the moratorium. That\u2019s where it can be done.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The Supreme Court, however, recently ruled differently on the subject.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Last month, a Supreme Court order permitted the moratorium to continue until the end of July. In his&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.supremecourt.gov\/opinions\/20pdf\/20a169_4f15.pdf\"><span class=\"s1\">opinion<\/span><\/a>, Justice Brett Kavanaugh wrote that \u201cthe Centers for Disease Control and Prevention exceeded its existing statutory authority by issuing a nationwide eviction moratorium.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cBecause the CDC plans to end the moratorium in only a few weeks, on July 31, and because those few weeks will allow for additional and more orderly distribution of the congressionally appropriated rental assistance funds, I vote at this time to deny the application to vacate the District Court\u2019s stay of its order,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">He noted that \u201cclear and specific congressional authorization (via new legislation) would be necessary for the CDC to extend the moratorium past July 31.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Landlords and advocacy organizations are opposed to most expansions on the moratorium, however, after having been financially harmed during the pandemic.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">On Thursday, the National Association of Realtors (NAR) pushed back against a potential extension.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cNAR is prepared to oppose vigorously any unreasonable effort by Congress to extend the ban without assistance for small housing providers,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nar.realtor\/breaking-news\/biden-wont-extend-moratorium\"><span class=\"s1\">said<\/span><\/a> Shannon McGahn, chief advocacy officer for NAR. \u201cWe have argued all along that the best solution for all parties is rental assistance for tenants in need paid directly to housing providers. Nearly half of all rental housing in America is a mom-and-pop operation, and these providers cannot continue to live in a state of financial hardship.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">A group of 14 industry groups sent a letter to legislators Thursday night asking them to \u201cend the unsustainable nationwide federal restrictions on property operations\u201d and instead speed up the rental assistance dispersal, per <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2021\/07\/30\/eviction-battle-house-democrats-501758\"><span class=\"s1\">Politico<\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cThe moratorium unfairly shifts economic hardships to the backs of housing providers who have jeopardized their own financial futures to provide essential housing to renters across the country,\u201d wrote the groups, headed up by the National Association of Realtors.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">As The Daily Wire <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/white-house-calls-on-congress-to-extend-eviction-moratorium\"><span class=\"s1\">reported<\/span><\/a> on Thursday, the White House called on Congress to extend the moratorium.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cGiven the recent spread of the delta variant, including among those Americans both most likely to face evictions and lacking vaccinations,&nbsp;President Biden&nbsp;would have strongly supported a decision by the CDC to further extend this eviction moratorium to protect renters at this moment of heightened vulnerability,\u201d White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said in a statement, per&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/policy\/finance\/565431-biden-calls-on-congress-to-extend-eviction-ban-with-days-until-expiration?rl=1\"><span class=\"s1\">The Hill<\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cUnfortunately, the Supreme Court has made clear that this option is no longer available,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cIn light of the Supreme Court\u2019s ruling, the president calls on Congress to extend the eviction moratorium to protect such vulnerable renters and their families without delay,\u201d Psaki&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/politics\/biden-urges-congress-to-extend-eviction-moratorium-saying-his-hands-are-tied-by-supreme-court-ruling\/2021\/07\/29\/2ed8a52e-f07e-11eb-81d2-ffae0f931b8f_story.html\"><span class=\"s1\">said<\/span><\/a>, adding that the evictions ban is \u201ca critical backstop to prevent hard-pressed renters and their families who lost jobs or income due to the COVID-19 pandemic from being evicted for nonpayment of rent.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><i>The Daily Wire is one of America\u2019s fastest-growing conservative media companies and counter-cultural outlets for news, opinion, and entertainment.
