American swimmers Lilly King and Annie Lazor \u2014 who clinched silver and bronze \u2014 rushed to embrace Schoenmaker in the water while she wept in disbelief.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cI wasn\u2019t expecting that at all,\u201d <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/olympics\/story\/_\/id\/31915663\/tatjana-schoenmaker-sets-world-record-win-gold-200-meter-breaststroke\"><span>said<\/span><\/a><span> Schoenmaker after her race. \u201cIt couldn\u2019t have been a better race. It still just doesn\u2019t sink in; maybe one day.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cIt\u2019s just an incredible swim,\u201d Lazor <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/sports\/olympics\/2021\/07\/29\/us-olympic-swimmers-lilly-king-annie-lazor-win-medals-200-breast\/5426088001\/\"><span>said<\/span><\/a><span> of Schoenmaker. \u201cThat world record has been standing for a little bit too long, I think.
