The corporations were quick to condemn Republicans lawmakers who voted against certifying the 2020 presidential election earlier this year, but apparently didn\u2019t criticize or punish Democrats who have similarly objected to election results in the past.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese corporations are doing something very new, and something that could potentially alienate an important base for them,\u201d Craig Holman, a lobbyist at Public Citizen, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/business\/2021\/01\/10\/marriott-campaign-donations-congress\/\">told<\/a> The Washington Post in January. \u201cI\u2019ve never heard of this happening before.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On Jan. 6, nearly 150 Republican lawmakers \u2014 eight senators and 139 representatives \u2014 objected to the 2020 presidential election results of at least one state, The New York Times <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/interactive\/2021\/01\/07\/us\/elections\/electoral-college-biden-objectors.html\">reported<\/a>. Pennsylvania and Arizona received the most amount of GOP objections while four other states received one objection apiece. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/07\/06\/joe-biden-capitol-riots-january-6-trump\/\">(RELATED: \u2018Existential Crisis\u2019: President Biden Marks 6 Months Since January 6 Capitol Riots)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, during the vote, throngs of former President Donald Trump\u2019s supporters <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/01\/15\/fbi-arrests-former-school-therapist-capitol-riot\/\">breached<\/a> the Capitol building in <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/07\/26\/kevin-mccarthy-pelosi-cheney-kinzinger-jan-6-committee-congress\/\">protest of the election results<\/a>. (Win McNamee\/Getty Images)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>In the days following the riot and the failed Republican effort to overturn the election, around 280 corporations announced they would either conduct a review their political donation activity or no longer support those who had voted to decertify, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/interactive\/2021\/01\/business\/corporate-pac-suspensions\/\">according<\/a> to a CNN database.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLast week\u2019s attempts by some congressional members to subvert the presidential election results and disrupt the peaceful transition of power do not align with our \u2026 values; therefore, the [American Express political action committee] will not support them,\u201d American Express CEO Stephen Squeri said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/about.americanexpress.com\/all-news\/news-details\/2021\/Statement-on-PAC-Contributions\/default.aspx\">statement<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>An Amazon spokesperson said the company would discuss its policy with the members of Congress who objected, CNBC <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2021\/01\/11\/facebook-halts-political-donations-after-capitol-riot.html\">reported<\/a>. Hallmark Cards even asked GOP Sens. Josh Hawley and Roger Marshall, who both voted in favor of certifying, to return the contributions it had given them. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/07\/28\/federal-communications-commission-brendan-carr-big-tech-netflix-amazon\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: EXCLUSIVE: FCC Commissioner Brendan Carr Pushes For End Of Big Tech \u2018Corporate Welfare\u2019 In Broadband Funding)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cFollowing last week\u2019s awful violence in DC, we are pausing all of our PAC contributions for at least the current quarter, while we review our policies,\u201d Facebook spokesperson Daniel Roberts said, according to CNN.<\/p>\n<p>But Democratic Reps. Jim McGovern, Jamie Raskin, Maxine Waters, Pramila Jayapal, Raul Grijalva, Sheila Jackson Lee and Barbara Lee voted to decertify the 2016 election results on Jan. 6, 2017 for several reasons including alleged Russian collusion, Politico <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/story\/2017\/01\/no-trump-electoral-college-challenge-233294\">reported<\/a> at the time. Jamie Raskin Breaks Down In Tears During Impeachment Presentation)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>For example, Jackson Lee received money from AT&amp;T and McGovern received money from Walmart in both 2016 and 2018, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.opensecrets.org\/members-of-congress\/sheila-jackson-lee\/contributors?cid=N00005818&amp;cycle=2018&amp;type=I\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">according<\/a> to OpenSecrets and Federal Election Commission (FEC) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fec.gov\/data\/receipts\/?data_type=processed&amp;committee_id=C00285171&amp;contributor_name=wal-mart\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">records<\/a>.
