The top GOP lawmaker added that the Treasury Department has severely mishandled tens of billions of dollars appropriated for the federal rental assistance program, putting many Americans in danger of soon being forced out by their landlords.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a full-scale failure by the Biden Administration that Republicans have been trying to address for months,\u201d McHenry said in a statement to the Daily Caller News Foundation. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/07\/28\/republicans-steve-scalise-joe-biden-janet-yellen-house-financial-services-committee\/\">(RELATED: House Republicans Slam Biden Administration For Avoiding Oversight)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cNow, we are three days away from the end of the CDC\u2019s unconstitutional eviction moratorium, and what is President Biden\u2019s solution? (Caroline Brehman\/Pool\/Getty Images)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>While the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/06\/29\/justice-kavanaugh-supreme-court-realtors-eviction-moratorium-cdc\/\">extended<\/a> the moratorium several times over the last 12 months, the Supreme Court <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/06\/29\/justice-kavanaugh-supreme-court-realtors-eviction-moratorium-cdc\/\">ruled<\/a> last month that further extensions must be congressionally approved. The high court allowed the moratorium to remain in place until July 31 to give the federal government time for \u201corderly distribution\u201d of rental assistance funds, Justice Brett Kavanaugh <a href=\"https:\/\/www.supremecourt.gov\/opinions\/20pdf\/20a169_4f15.pdf\">wrote<\/a> in the court\u2019s opinion.<\/p>\n<p>However, the Treasury Department <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/07\/21\/treasury-department-emergency-rent-assistance-patrick-mchenry\/\">admitted<\/a> last week that just a fraction of the Emergency Rental Assistance (ERA) program funds have been distributed. Low-income renters, which the program was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hud.gov\/sites\/dfiles\/PIH\/documents\/ERAP_PIH_ERAP_FAQs.pdf\">designed to protect<\/a>, have received just $3 billion of the $46.6 billion Congress gave to the ERA with eviction looming.<\/p>\n<p>In its statement Thursday, the White House blamed the potential eviction crisis on the Supreme Court\u2019s decision and localities that haven\u2019t properly handled federal funds. But it also said it favored an extension of the moratorium because of the rapidly spreading delta variant.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNow, after months of silence on the issue, the White House offers up a press release that will do absolutely nothing to help renters in need,\u201d McHenry continued. \u201cThis Administration is squarely to blame for any American family that loses their home due to the gross mismanagement of the Emergency Rental Assistance programs.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The congressman and other Republican leaders <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/07\/28\/republicans-steve-scalise-joe-biden-janet-yellen-house-financial-services-committee\/\">wrote a letter<\/a> Wednesday evening to Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen for avoiding oversight on her handling of the ERA program.<\/p>\n<p>Content created by The Daily Caller News Foundation is available without charge to any eligible news publisher that can provide a large audience.
