He was also fined 3.11 million yuan ($478,697; \u00a3343,227).<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><i><span>He was reportedly detained last year, along with 20 relatives and business associates, over a land dispute with a government-run farm\u2026 Sun is said to be close to some prominent Chinese political dissidents and has in the past criticised the government\u2019s rural policies. He was one of the few people to openly accuse the government of covering up an African swine flu outbreak, which affected his farms in 2019, and later devastated much of the country\u2019s industry.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><i><span>He also was sentenced to prison in 2003, for \u201cillegal fundraising\u201d but the case was overturned after an outpouring of support from activists and the public.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span>Sun reportedly confessed to making mistakes and described himself as an \u201coutstanding communist party member.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Sun\u2019s sentencing occurs as Chinese authorities crack down on private business activity in the nation. The nation has also <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/china-crypto-ban-triggers-crash-wiping-out-almost-1-trillion-in-cryptocurrency-market-cap\"><span>restricted<\/span><\/a><span> the official use of cryptocurrencies such as bitcoin, causing a $1 trillion liquidation in the global digital asset market.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Beyond Sun, the Chinese Communist Party has been quick to pressure influential citizens into complying with government rule. Alibaba founder Jack Ma \u2014 who has a net worth of over $50 billion \u2014 <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/billionaire-alibaba-founder-jack-ma-missing-after-criticizing-china-possibly-just-lying-low\"><span>disappeared<\/span><\/a><span> from the public eye after hinting that the government had poorly managed China\u2019s financial system. After news outlets across the world wondered if he had been arrested, a source told CNBC that he was merely \u201clying low for the time being.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The Chinese Communist Party has also begun <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/hong-kong-issues-first-guilty-verdict-under-china-demanded-national-security-law\"><span>enforcing<\/span><\/a><span> the Hong Kong National Security Law, which increases penalties for \u201csecession\u201d and \u201csubversion\u201d \u2014 effectively removing civil liberties from residents.
