Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), and Rep. Ayanna Pressley (D-MA) <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/citing-racial-inequality-schumer-asks-biden-to-flick-his-pen-and-cancel-50000-in-student-debt\"><span>held<\/span><\/a><span> a press conference to list the purported benefits of pausing \u2014 and, in some cases, outright ending \u2014 federal student loan payments.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>After asking President Biden to extend the federal <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/dems-beg-biden-to-act-swiftly-and-extend-student-loan-payment-pause\"><span>pause<\/span><\/a><span> on debt payments, Schumer stated that the move \u201chas actually shown how important canceling student debt is to borrowers and to our economy.\u201d He asserted that \u201cten times over, canceling $50,000 in debt would be even more important and helpful to these folks who are borrowers, to get the economy going, and to deal with the racial inequality which student debt has exacerbated.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cAll President Biden has to do is flick his pen and sign it,\u201d Schumer continued. \u201cMake America a happier, better, more prosperous place. We\u2019re going to keep fighting until this happens.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Weighing into the debate on Wednesday, Pelosi <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/pelosi-shoots-down-schumers-student-debt-plea-to-biden-he-does-not-have-that-power\"><span>disagreed<\/span><\/a><span> with the premise that Biden can unilaterally cancel student debt.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cPeople think that the president of the United States has the power for debt forgiveness,\u201d she remarked during a press conference. \u201cHe does not. He can postpone, he can delay, but he does not have that power. That has to be an act of Congress.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>However, the lawmaker also questioned the premise that student loan forgiveness is a beneficial policy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cSuppose,\u201d she said, \u201cyour child at this time does not want to go to college, but you\u2019re paying taxes to forgive someone else\u2019s obligation. You may not be happy about that.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Progressives quickly voiced disagreement with Pelosi.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cSuppose your child did not want to go fight countless and endless shadow wars across the globe, at this time, but you\u2019re paying taxes to fund all of that,\u201d <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RashidaTlaib\/status\/1420442023153344513\"><span>tweeted<\/span><\/a><span> Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) in a remark retweeted by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY). \u201cYou may not be happy about it!\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cThis is an argument against every public good and that\u2019s not how public goods work,\u201d <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/nhannahjones\/status\/1420496799119331338\"><span>added<\/span><\/a><span> 1619 Project founder and New York Times journalist Nikole Hannah-Jones. \u201cWhy should we pay, then, for public school if our kids attend private or we have no kids?
