DeAngelis (@DeAngelisCorey) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DeAngelisCorey\/status\/1420196677974114304?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">July 28, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The bans came prior to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention\u2019s (CDC) new mask <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/coronavirus\/2019-ncov\/community\/schools-childcare\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">guidance<\/a>, which \u201crecommends universal indoor masking for all teachers, staff, students, and visitors to K-12 schools, regardless of vaccination status.\u201d Several state leaders are standing firm on the bans as COVID-19 and its delta variant continue to pose very little risk to otherwise healthy <a href=\"https:\/\/nymag.com\/intelligencer\/2021\/07\/the-kids-were-safe-from-covid-the-whole-time.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">children<\/a>. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/05\/12\/ron-desantis-children-students-no-masks-fall-semester-florida\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: DeSantis: \u2018Kids Do Not Need To Be Wearing These Masks\u2019 For Fall School Semester)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Arkansas<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Arkansas General Assembly <a href=\"https:\/\/www.arkleg.state.ar.us\/Acts\/FTPDocument?file=1002&amp;path=%2FACTS%2F2021R%2FPublic%2F&amp;ddBienniumSession=2021%2F2021R&amp;Search=\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">passed<\/a> a bill in April banning mask mandates across the state, including in schools. However, the Little Rock School Board passed a unanimous resolution Monday asking for support from the General Assembly to reverse course and allow mandates,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/katv.com\/news\/local\/lrsd-board-passes-proposed-mask-mandate-resolution-unanimously-following-special-meeting\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">according<\/a> to KATV News.<\/p>\n<p>Republican Arkansas Gov. Republican Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey voiced his commitment to the ban following the new CDC guidelines in a <a href=\"https:\/\/azgovernor.gov\/governor\/news\/2021\/07\/governor-ducey-statement-updated-cdc-guidance\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">statement<\/a> on his official website. He stated, \u201cthis is just another example of the Biden-Harris administration\u2019s inability to effectively confront the COVID-19 pandemic.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" readability=\"13.28025477707\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Arizona does not allow mask mandates, vaccine mandates, vaccine passports or discrimination in schools based on who is or isn\u2019t vaccinated. Kim Reynolds signed into law a bill passed by the state House and Senate in May which banned mask mandates in schools. The bill means \u201cschool boards and superintendents can no longer require employees, students or other people to wear facial coverings on the property of a public school or accredited private school,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.desmoinesregister.com\/story\/news\/2021\/05\/20\/iowa-mask-mandate-ban-gov-kim-reynolds-requirements-schools-cities\/5180015001\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">according<\/a>&nbsp;to the Des Moines Register.<\/p>\n<p>A Tuesday&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/governor.iowa.gov\/press-release\/reynolds-statement-on-new-covid-19-guidance-from-the-biden-administration%C2%A0%C2%A0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">statement<\/a> from Gov. Reynolds encourages citizens of Iowa to get vaccinated while also stating, \u201cI am proud that we recently put new laws in place that will protect Iowans against unnecessary government mandates in our schools and local governments.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Oklahoma<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Republican Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt voiced his plan to keep kids in schools without masks, saying he is \u201cnot planning on declaring an emergency,\u201d the required prerequisite for the introduction of mask mandates in the state, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oklahoman.com\/story\/news\/education\/2021\/07\/23\/oklahoma-governor-kevin-stitt-rules-out-school-mask-mandates-not-planning-covid-emergency-order\/8071575002\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">according<\/a> to The Oklahoman.<\/p>\n<p>Oklahoma schools ceased mandating masks as of July 1 following the passage of Senate Bill 658. The bill states that a public school district may only mandate masks when the jurisdiction is under a Governor declared state of emergency,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.koco.com\/article\/oklahoma-city-public-schools-will-no-longer-require-masks-starting-july-1-officials-say\/36766415\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">according<\/a> to KOCO News.<\/p>\n<p><strong>South Carolina<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Similar to Arizona, the South Carolina General Assembly banned school mask mandates via their annual budget on Wednesday, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.live5news.com\/2021\/07\/27\/south-carolina-schools-wont-require-face-masks-blames-state-budget\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">according<\/a> to Live 5 News. Republican South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster stated his approval of the ban, writing on Twitter \u201cclosing schools and mandating masks is not the answer. Personal responsibility is.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" readability=\"10.380952380952\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">The Delta Variant poses a real threat to South Carolinians. Greg Abbott banned mask mandates for schools via <a href=\"https:\/\/gov.texas.gov\/uploads\/files\/press\/EO-GA-36_prohibition_on_mandating_face_coverings_response_to_COVID-19_disaster_IMAGE_05-18-2021.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Executive Order GA-36<\/a> in May. The order also bans local governments from issuing any mask mandates. In a Twitter post Tuesday, Governor Abbott made clear his commitment to the ban.<\/p>\n<p>He wrote, \u201cevery Texan has the right to choose whether they will wear a mask or have their children wear masks.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" readability=\"13.43653250774\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">The time for government mask mandates is over\u2014now is the time for personal responsibility.<\/p>\n<p>In May, I signed an executive order prohibiting mask mandates by gov\u2019t entities.<\/p>\n<p>Every Texan has the right to choose whether they will wear a mask or have their children wear masks.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Greg Abbott (@GregAbbott_TX) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/GregAbbott_TX\/status\/1420148011360006144?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">July 27, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>Utah<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The state legislature of Utah passed a bill in May which prohibits mask mandates in K-12 schools as well as colleges and universities, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fox13now.com\/news\/coronavirus\/local-coronavirus-news\/a-bill-banning-mask-mandates-in-utah-schools-advances-on-capitol-hill\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">according<\/a> to Fox 13. Republican Utah Gov. Spencer Cox called the bill \u201chealthy for our souls\u201d at the time of signing, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.deseret.com\/utah\/2021\/7\/27\/22596316\/coronavirus-cdc-fully-vaccinated-and-everyone-in-k-12-schools-should-be-masked-covid-19\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">according<\/a> to Deseret News.<\/p>\n<p>Other state leaders, including Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, are considering legal measures to ensure students will not be required to wear masks in schools, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wptv.com\/rebound\/state-of-education\/florida-gov-ron-desantis-threatens-legislative-action-to-prevent-school-mask-mandates\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">according<\/a> to WPTV.
