Ron DeSantis\u2019 office said Tuesday that the new mask recommendations from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) were not \u201cbased in science.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The CDC <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/07\/27\/cdc-vaccinated-americans-mask-up-some-circumstances-delta-variant\/\">announced<\/a> Tuesday that it now recommends all children in kindergarten through 12th grade wear masks full-time while at school, regardless of vaccination status. It also recommends wearing masks indoors even for fully vaccinated people in certain circumstances. CDC Director Rochelle Walensky said that an increase in cases from the Delta variant makes tighter restrictions necessary. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/07\/23\/kids-breathe-florida-desantis-mask-mandates-cities-clamp-down-school-year\/\">(RELATED: \u2018We Need Our Kids To Breathe\u2019: DeSantis Vows No Mask Mandates As Major US Cities Clamp Down While COVID-19 Cases Rise)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think our fear is that seeing some of those rumblings, that there be an attempt from the federal level or even some of these organizations to try to push for mandatory masking of school children,\u201d DeSantis said during a Monday roundtable, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/desantis-cdc-k-12-students-mask-not-based-science\">Fox News<\/a>. \u201cAnd so our view is that this should absolutely not be imposed. It should not be mandated.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" readability=\"6.7655172413793\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">DeSantis blasts CDC for K-12 mask recommendation: \u2018It isn\u2019t based in science\u2019 <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/5KcbydYlI4\">https:\/\/t.co\/5KcbydYlI4<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Fox News (@FoxNews) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/FoxNews\/status\/1420102577820258306?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">July 27, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>DeSantis press secretary Christina Pushaw told Fox News that the CDC\u2019s new recommendations are not \u201cbased in science\u201d and could end up backfiring by eroding the public\u2019s trust in vaccines.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is no indication that areas with mask mandates have performed any better than areas without mask mandates,\u201d Pushaw said. \u201cIn fact, this policy could actually backfire.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMandating masks for vaccinated people erodes public trust and confidence in the effectiveness of the vaccines,\u201d she added. \u201cTo me it appears that the government wants to be perceived as \u2018doing something\u2019 during a seasonal infection surge, even if their policy does not necessarily make people safer.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Florida governor has been a vocal opponent of <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/05\/26\/ron-desantis-masks-covid-19-florida\/\">mask mandates<\/a> and has chosen to keep Florida one of the most <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/05\/24\/ron-desantis-florida-america-west-berlin-covid-19-response\/\">open states<\/a> in the country during the pandemic.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Republican Florida Gov.
