Gill emphasized to the DCNF that \u201cbased on how these vaccines work in the body, there is not a plausible mechanism to suggest they would have any impact on fertility.\u201d<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Studies on how COVID-19 vaccines affect fertility are \u201cin the works,\u201d but some are still in the planning stages, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) told the Daily Caller News Foundation.<\/p>\n<p>Anxieties over whether the COVID-19 vaccines impact fertility have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/health\/2021\/02\/22\/women-vaccine-infertility-disinformation\/\">discouraged some U.S. women<\/a> from obtaining the vaccines, though the CDC <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/coronavirus\/2019-ncov\/vaccines\/recommendations\/pregnancy.html\">has not found evidence<\/a> that coronavirus vaccines \u201ccause female or male fertility problems.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>After the Food and Drug Administration issued the first Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) of the COVID-19 vaccine in December 2020, researchers found that the five \u201cmost queried terms\u201d on Google were \u201cCOVID Vaccine Fertility,\u201d \u201d COVID Vaccine and Infertility,\u201d \u201cCOVID Vaccine Infertility,\u201d \u201cCOVID Vaccine Fertility CDC,\u201d and \u201cCOVID 19 Vaccine Infertility,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/34181273\/\">according to a June 2021 study.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>CDC spokeswoman Martha Sharan told the DCNF in mid-July that \u201cseveral studies are in the works\u201d but hedged that \u201csome are still in the planning stages.\u201d <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/05\/05\/fertility-rates-drop-millenials-marriage-women\/\">(RELATED: US Fertility Rates Continue To Plummet As Millennials Face Financial Concerns, Marry Later)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt this time, CDC and other researchers are looking at available data to investigate these topics,\u201d CDC public affairs specialist Curtis H. Gill told the DCNF Tuesday. \u201cIn general, studying impacts on fertility inherently takes time. A person needs to be unable to get pregnant for at least 6 months or a year depending on age to meet the definition of infertility.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Gill emphasized that there is no evidence that any of the coronavirus vaccines affect future fertility, noting that \u201cbased on how these vaccines work in the body, there is not a plausible mechanism to suggest they would have any impact on fertility.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnecdotally, so far, we have not heard any reports related to difficulty with conceiving after the trials,\u201d he said. That study found that there were no vaccine-related effects on the rats\u2019 fertility and that the study \u201cenabled initiation of a clinical study in pregnant women.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Multiple researchers involved in the study were simultaneously employed by and held stock in Pfizer, Inc., and two of the researchers were employed by and held stock in BioNTech SE. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/04\/16\/joe-biden-roe-v-wade-department-of-health-and-human-services-donald-trump\/\">(RELATED: Biden Admin Reverses Trump\u2019s Ban On Using Aborted Fetal Tissue For Taxpayer-Funded Research)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Another Israeli study <a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/33985514\/\">investigating the effect<\/a> of the mRNA SARS-CoV-2 vaccine on patients undergoing in vetro fertilization (IVF) found that the vaccine \u201cdid not affect patients\u2019 performance or ovarian reserve in their immediate subsequent IVF cycle,\u201d though it noted that \u201cfuture larger studies with longer follow-up will be needed to validate our observations.\u201d<\/p>\n<div readability=\"11.766101694915\">\u201cComparing two IVF [in vitro fertilization] cycles was the best way to see if the vaccine would have any impact in terms of number of eggs or any other factors,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jpost.com\/health-science\/covid-19-vaccine-has-no-impact-on-fertility-israeli-study-shows-671666\">said professor Raoul Orvieto<\/a>, lead author of the May 2021 study and director of Sheba\u2019s IVF Fertility Clinic. \u201cIt did not.\u201d<\/div>\n<p>Yale University MD-Ph.D. candidate Alice Lu-Culligan <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/sections\/health-shots\/2021\/07\/20\/1016912079\/the-life-cycle-of-a-covid-19-vaccine-lie\">suggested to NPR<\/a> in late July that fears about the vaccines\u2019 impacts on fertility may have arisen after \u201ca lot of women noted heavy menstrual periods\u201d after they received the vaccine this spring.<\/p>\n<p>Lu-Culligan, who studies the immune system and reproductive health, said that it\u2019s possible the vaccine could temporarily altar menstruation processes since immune cells play an important part in a woman\u2019s period.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s very plausible that you could have abnormalities to the typical menstrual cycle,\u201d she told NPR. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/05\/24\/italy-new-york-times-centers-for-disease-control-and-prevention\/\">(RELATED: Demographers Warn Of \u2018Epochal Fall In Fertility\u2019 Across The Globe)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"role\">In a late July piece for The Conversation, University of Miami Associate Professor of Urology Ranjith Ramasamy <a href=\"https:\/\/theconversation.com\/covid-19-could-cause-male-infertility-and-sexual-dysfunction-but-vaccines-do-not-164139\">argued<\/a> that COVID-19 itself may cause male infertility and sexual dysfunction while the vaccines will not.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne reason for vaccine hesitancy&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.factcheck.org\/2021\/06\/scicheck-research-rebuts-baseless-claims-linking-covid-19-vaccines-to-male-infertility\/\">is the perception among many<\/a> that COVID-19 shots might affect male fertility,\u201d Ramasamy wrote. \u201cOur research shows the opposite. There is no evidence the vaccine harms a man\u2019s reproductive system. But ignoring the vaccine and contracting COVID-19 very well could.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC7694590\/\">November 2020 Canadian study<\/a>, conducted before vaccines were widely distributed, found that \u201cthe influence of COVID-19 on the female and male reproductive system needs further investigation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFuture studies should include assessment of ovarian function in female patients during the acute and recovery phase,\u201d said the study, which examined the impact of COVID-19 on human reproductive biology. \u201cFurthermore, since there is no long term follow up, significant effects of this virus on reproductive function, cannot be excluded as yet.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The study said that it is \u201ccurrently unknown whether COVID-19 could induce a chronic systemic pro-inflammatory effect, which may impair ovarian reserve.\u201d <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/05\/14\/pope-francis-birth-rate-family-future\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Pope Francis Decries Plunging Birth Rates: \u2018No Future\u2019 Without The Family)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cEvidence so far suggests potential effects on the male reproductive system from COVID-19 infection. However, data regarding the effect on semen parameters needs further investigation,\u201d the study said. \u201cFuture studies should focus on long-term effects on gonadal function in recovering patients.
