I don\u2019t know, I feel like people really don\u2019t know the difference between nationality and race because there\u2019s a lot of black people in Brazil, but they\u2019re Brazilian.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As <a href=\"https:\/\/www.insider.com\/naomi-osaka-japan-olympics-games-over-usa-netflix-documentary-2021-7\">noted<\/a> by Insider, Osaka relinquished her American citizenship back in 2019, before she turned 22:<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"8\">\n<p><em>\u201cThe tennis star who was born in Japan but moved to New York at the age of 3 previously held dual American and Japanese citizenship. But under Japan\u2019s Nationality Act, those who hold dual citizenship must choose one before their 22nd birthday.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The same year, the young player discussed on a Japanese broadcast her desire to represent Japan in the Olympics, emphasizing her \u201cpride of the country.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is a special feeling to aim for the Olympics as a representative of Japan,\u201d she said. \u201cI think that playing with the pride of the country will make me feel more emotional.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe made the decision that Naomi would represent Japan at an early age,\u201d Osaka\u2019s parents <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/wp-admin\/post.php?post=246505&amp;action=edit\">told<\/a> The Wall Street Journal in 2018.&nbsp;\u201cShe was born in Osaka and was brought up in a household of Japanese and Haitian culture.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cQuite simply, Naomi and her sister Mari have always felt Japanese so that was our only rationale.
