Along the way, she learns the wisdom of his words.<\/p>\n<p>Casting has already begun for the project, with Heather Locklear signed on to play Carlson and Jason McDonald of \u201cVampire Diaries\u201d tapped to play her husband, Richard.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/tv\/heather-locklear-lifetime-movie-meghan-mccain\/\">People<\/a> magazine quoted McCain addressing the hubbub her View departure created in a now-deleted Twitter post. \u201cSo much chatter, so much gossip, so many, many, many questions people are asking me this past week,\u201d she says. \u201cI pride myself on always taking big risks, rolling the dice, and making unpredictable life and career choices. I\u2019ve never fit in a box and I never will.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The outspoken conservative announced her new endeavor on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/CRzLG-TN0Mx\/\">Instagram<\/a>, saying, \u201cI am beyond excited and honored to be partnering with @lifetimetv and @kristine_carlson to executive produce the legendary \u2018<em>Don\u2019t Sweat the Small Stuff\u2019<\/em><em>&nbsp;<\/em>book into a Lifetime film with icon @HeatherLocklear starring as Kristine.\u201d She added in an apparent reference to her father, the late Senator John McCain, \u201cThis book helped me through my own journey in grief and loss with inspiration from Kristine and the \u2018<em>Don\u2019t Sweat the Small Stuff<\/em>\u2019&nbsp;story.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>McCain shocked the TV industry when she revealed her resignation from the \u201cThe View\u201d on July 1. \u201cThis was not an easy decision,\u201d she told viewers. \u201cIt took a lot of thought and counsel and prayer, and talking to my family and my close friends, and, you know, look \u2014 COVID has changed the world for all of us and it changed the way, at least for me, the way I am looking at life, the way I\u2019m living my life, the way I want my life to look like.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Citing her father, she said, \u201cHe said that I could never give up an opportunity to work on such an iconic show and to work with Whoopi Goldberg \u2014 and he was right.
