Ron DeSantis (R-FL) for leaving enhanced federal unemployment insurance, despite the fact that the state has as many job openings as unemployed people.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Under the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/comparing-trump-and-bidens-covid-relief-bills\"><span>American Rescue Plan<\/span><\/a><span>, Congress is paying unemployed Americans $300 per week through September 6 on top of preexisting state-level jobless programs. Citing the fact that business owners in their states have been unable to fill an abundance of open positions, Republican governors <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/jobless-claims-increase-again-pausing-downward-trend-with-biggest-jump-since-march\"><span>opted<\/span><\/a><span> out of the extra federal benefits to encourage labor market recovery.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u201cFlorida is one of 26 states \u2013 nearly all of which are led by Republican governors \u2013 that decided to prematurely end one of three federal unemployment programs that provided out-of-work Americans with an extra $300 a week, on top of their regular state benefits, and extended eligibility for contract workers as well as those who had exhausted their regular state benefits,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxbusiness.com\/politics\/florida-sued-ending-unemployment-benefits\">Fox News reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><span>In response, residents of Indiana, Maryland, and Texas have filed <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/thousands-of-americans-are-suing-their-governors-for-opting-out-of-extra-federal-unemployment-handouts\"><span>suit<\/span><\/a><span> against their governors over the past several weeks. The most recent legal action \u2014 which lists DeSantis as a defendant \u2014 alleges that Florida ended its participation in the federal program \u201cfor purely partisan and political purposes.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tampafp.com\/florida-lawyer-group-sues-gov-desantis-state-for-federal-unemployment-payments\/\"><span>lawsuit<\/span><\/a><span> reads:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"16\">\n<p><i><span>DeSantis\u2019 termination of Florida\u2019s participation in these programs will reduce and\/or eliminate the benefits to which the Plaintiffs would otherwise be entitled.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><i><span>Given that Florida\u2019s unemployment compensation program pays one of the lowest benefits in the Country, and is one of the shortest durations in the country, even the addition of the extra Federal payments still barely allows unemployed Floridians to pay their basic living expenses.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><i><span>By terminating Florida\u2019s participation\u2026 Defendants are violating their clear legal and statutory duty to secure such benefits for employees in the State of Florida including the Plaintiffs and all other residents of the State of Florida who have been receiving FPUC benefits.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span>According to the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/business\/us-economic-recovery-coronavirus\"><span>Back-to-Normal Index<\/span><\/a><span> \u2014 a project of CNN Business and Moody\u2019s Analytics \u2014 Florida is observing the eleventh strongest economic recovery from COVID-19 and the lockdown-induced recession. As early as May, Florida had 500,000 <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tampabay.com\/news\/business\/2021\/06\/19\/florida-has-500000-job-openings-as-503000-remain-out-of-work\/\"><span>available<\/span><\/a><span> jobs and 503,000 unemployed residents.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cFlorida businesses are trying to fill vacancies and are actually having a difficult time hiring,\u201d said Florida Department of Economic Opportunity head Dane Eagle in a statement. \u201cBusinesses across the state continue to provide Floridians with opportunities for meaningful employment and economic freedom.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/disney-moves-thousands-of-jobs-from-california-to-floridas-business-friendly-climate\"><span>The Daily Wire<\/span><\/a><span> previously reported that several prominent businesses \u2014 including Disney \u2014 have been moving operations to the Sunshine State in order to benefit from policymakers\u2019 prioritization of entrepreneurship and innovation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cThis new project will create a dynamic environment to support our expanding business \u2014 a brand-new regional campus which will be built in the vibrant Lake Nona community of Orlando, Florida,\u201d said Disney Parks chairman Josh D\u2019Amaro in a letter to staff members. \u201cIn addition to Florida\u2019s business-friendly climate, this new regional campus gives us the opportunity to consolidate our teams and be more collaborative and impactful both from a creative and operational standpoint.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>DeSantis was one of the first governors to end COVID-19 shutdowns, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/8-times-ron-desantis-stood-up-to-the-media-and-went-viral\"><span>stating<\/span><\/a><span> that \u201cwe will never do any of these lockdowns again, and I hear people say they\u2019ll shut down the country, and honestly, I cringe.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span>The Daily Wire is one of America\u2019s fastest-growing conservative media companies and counter-cultural outlets for news, opinion, and entertainment.
