Despite claiming to be a devout Catholic, Pelosi has said taxpayer-funded abortions are a \u201cpriority.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Pelosi\u2019s statement came as she defended House Democrats\u2019 current effort to eliminate the Hyde Amendment, which prohibits federal dollars from being used to fund most abortions. In response Thursday, the archbishop of San Francisco, Salvatore Cordileone, rebuked Pelosi, saying \u201cno one can claim to be a devout Catholic and condone the killing of innocent human life, let alone have the government pay for it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He added that the right to life is fundamental and Catholics do not oppose fundamental human rights. The archbishop has consistently condemned Pelosi\u2019s position on abortion. \u201cShe is misguiding so many Catholics who think that because she is a permanent leader and important person in our country, and Catholic that people think it\u2019s acceptable to favor abortion. And that\u2019s simply not true,\u201d said the archbishop.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">&#8220;Devout Catholic&#8221; Nancy Pelosi just admitted that having taxpayer-funded abortions is a &#8220;priority&#8221; for Democrats. <\/p>\n<p>DISGUSTING! <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/HydeSavesLives?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#HydeSavesLives<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/Fd149YwTq2\">pic.twitter.com\/Fd149YwTq2<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 House Republicans (@HouseGOP) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/HouseGOP\/status\/1418219391687135250?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">July 22, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Archbishop Cordileone said that objecting to abortion is not exclusive to church teaching, and that it transcends it as the natural law of man. However, the Democrat views abortion differently than the teachings of her supposed Catholic faith.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBecause it\u2019s an issue of health for many woman in America, especially those in low income situations and in different states. It\u2019s something that has been a priority for us for a long time,\u201d said the House speaker. The archbishop commented on Pelosi\u2019s use of the smokescreen of abortion as an issue of health and fairness to poor women, calling it the epitome of hypocrisy.<\/p>\n<p>He posed the question, \u201cwhat about the health of the baby being killed? What about giving poor women real choice so they are supported in choosing life?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The archbishop concluded by saying, \u201cit is people of faith who run pro-life crisis pregnancy clinics.
