The DOJ has, however, opened an investigation into New Jersey\u2019s nursing home policies relating to two specific nursing homes in the state.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Civil Rights Division requested information from New York, Pennsylvania, Michigan, and New Jersey regarding COVID-19 and nursing facilities run by, or for, those states, by letters dated August 26, 2020. The letters stated that the requested information would assist the Department in determining whether to open an investigation under [the Civil Rights of Institutionalized Persons Act] CRIPA,\u201d wrote Deputy Assistant Attorney General Joe Gaeta. \u201cEach state provided information in response to the request. We have reviewed the information provided by these states along with additional information available to the Department. Based on that review, we have decided not to open a CRIPA investigation of any public nursing facility within New York, Pennsylvania, or Michigan at this time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Federalist <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2021\/07\/24\/biden-doj-wont-investigate-deadly-nursing-home-policies-in-these-democrat-run-states\/\">reported<\/a> that those three states received their own letters that they would not be investigated at this time. In August 2020, The Daily Wire <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/breaking-justice-department-seeking-data-from-states-that-implemented-policies-mandating-nursing-homes-couldnt-reject-coronavirus-patients\">reported<\/a> that then-President Donald Trump\u2019s DOJ was seeking data from states that implemented policies mandating nursing homes couldn\u2019t reject COVID-19-positive patients.<\/p>\n<p>The Biden DOJ\u2019s decision to end those investigation brought condemnation from Republicans.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhere is the justice for nursing home victims and their grieving families?\u201d Scalise said. \u201cGrieving families deserve answers and accountability. It\u2019s unconscionable that Biden\u2019s Department of Justice refuses to investigate the deadly actions that went against CDC\u2019s medical guidance taken in these states.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>House Republican Conference Chair Elise Stefanik (NY), blasted the decision for letting Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D-NY) off the hook for his devastating policies.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis decision from President Biden\u2019s Department of Justice makes President Biden complicit in the criminal corruption scandal and coverup of deaths of thousands of vulnerable seniors,\u201d Stefanik said. \u201cNew Yorkers deserve answers and accountability.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Janice Dean, Fox News\u2019 senior meteorologist who lost her in-laws in New York nursing homes due to COVID-19, called the decision a \u201cterrible day for thousands of families.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere will be no justice for our loved ones, and it feels like we\u2019ve lost them all over again,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" readability=\"10.511428571429\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">A terrible day for thousands of families. In a letter to <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SteveScalise?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@SteveScalise<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TheJusticeDept?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@TheJusticeDept<\/a> wrote that they were dropping the nursing home investigations in all states including New York. There will be no justice for our loved ones, and it feels like we\u2019ve lost them all over again. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/DV7uNRMr9D\">pic.twitter.com\/DV7uNRMr9D<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Janice Dean (@JaniceDean) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JaniceDean\/status\/1418662954304692225?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">July 23, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>As The Daily Wire <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/top-cuomo-aides-edited-report-to-hide-nursing-home-death-toll-ahead-of-book-release-report\">reported<\/a> earlier this year, top Cuomo aides reportedly \u201cpressured state health department officials to alter a report to remove the total number of nursing home residents who died from the coronavirus.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Even though the investigations into New York, Michigan, and Pennsylvania were dismissed, New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy (D) is still facing an investigation. Further, Cuomo is still being investigated by the FBI and the Brooklyn U.S. Attorney\u2019s Office. In addition, Michigan Gov.
