At the GOP doctors\u2019 presser on Thursday, the Louisiana Republican said he chose to get vaccinated as an extra layer of protection against the delta variant.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI just felt the time was right to do it,\u201d said Scalise. \u201cI\u2019m happy that I got the vaccine, and I\u2019ve always had high confidence in the process that was used to develop it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In 2020, Scalise strongly supported President Trump\u2019s Operation Warp Speed initiative. He went on to highlight the protection antibodies can provide.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">I got my first shot of the COVID vaccine on Friday, and I\u2019m feeling good.<\/p>\n<p>Democrats and the media scoffed when <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/realDonaldTrump?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@realDonaldTrump<\/a> said we\u2019d have a safe and effective vaccine this year, but he kept his promise!<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Kevin McCarthy (@GOPLeader) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/GOPLeader\/status\/1340778623192731649?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">December 20, 2020<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) has also received his first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.
