Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Gov. Kay Ivey (R-Ala.) blamed the surge in COVID-19 cases on people who have refused to get the vaccine.<\/p>\n<p>Ivey asserted she didn\u2019t want another statewide mask mandate, but added she didn\u2019t know how to encourage more people to get vaccinated. This comes after state health officials have recommended another mask mandate in open public areas due to a rise in Delta variant cases in metropolitan localities.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI want folks to get vaccinated. That\u2019s the cure. That prevents everything,\u201d she asserted. \u201cWhy do we want to mess around with just temporary stuff? We don\u2019t need to encourage people to just go just half way with curing this disease.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">No one asked for my input for this story, and the headline is misleading.
