Jim Jordan (R-OH) and Jim Banks (R-IN) on a select committee to investigate the D.C. riot on January 6.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs Speaker Pelosi said, this is serious, deadly business, and she\u2019s going to run this committee accordingly,\u201d said Democratic strategist Juanita Tolliver.<\/p>\n<p>She went on to connect the commission to the Democrats\u2019 desperate hope to hold onto its <a href=\"https:\/\/pressgallery.house.gov\/member-data\/party-breakdown\">narrow majority<\/a> in the House of Representatives in the upcoming midterm elections. \u201cSpeaker Pelosi meant what she said when she said this is going to run for as long as it takes to get to the truth \u2014 and that includes September, October, November 2022, where this will absolutely be front and center on voters\u2019 minds as more information comes out,\u201d Tolliver said. \u201cIt depends on what information comes out to make it noteworthy for voters.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Capehart used that response as an opportunity to praise Pelosi\u2019s civic responsibility and patriotism.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeople need to understand that for Speaker Pelosi, her reverence of the Constitution is second \u2013 her faith in the Constitution is second only to her Catholic faith,\u201d Capehart said. \u201cShe takes her role as a constitutional officer of the United States government very, very seriously.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Tolliver\u2019s fellow panelist, former Republican Congressman Dave Jolly, appeared to smile uncomfortably.<\/p>\n<p>Capehart apparently meant to present Pelosi in a better light than congressional Republicans, as he had just said that President Donald Trump \u201chas no reverence whatsoever for the Constitution of the United States.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>If Capehart wanted to reassure viewers than Speaker Pelosi will abide by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.annenbergclassroom.org\/article-i-section-8\/\">enumerated powers<\/a> and limitations of the Constitution, invoking her adherence to the Roman Catholic Church\u2019s Magisterium seems an odd way to do it. Pelosi has been publicly rebuked numerous times for her diversions from the binding teachings of her faith.<\/p>\n<p><span>Pelosi has long supported taxpayer-funding of abortion-on-demand. In 2019, she said that she wishes we \u201cnever had a Hyde Amendment,\u201d an amendment that essentially blocks most federal funding for abortion services.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>In 2013 remarks, Pelosi <a href=\"https:\/\/www.catholicnewsagency.com\/news\/27444\/catholic-groups-slam-pelosis-claim-that-abortion-is-sacred-ground\">referred<\/a> to the protection of abortion as \u201csacred ground.\u201d As recently as last month, when a reporter from <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/cnsnews.com\/\"><span>CNSNews<\/span><\/a><span> asked Pelosi if \u201can unborn baby at 15 weeks\u201d is a human being, Pelosi replied, \u201cLet me just say that I\u2019m a big supporter of <\/span><i><span>Roe v. Wade<\/span><\/i><span>.\u201d When asked during a 2008 episode of \u201cMeet the Press\u201d when life begins, Pelosi <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/therightswriter.com\/2013\/07\/for-democrats-abortion-is-their-religion\/\"><span>replied<\/span><\/a><span> that \u201cas an ardent, practicing Catholic, this is an issue that I have studied for a long time.\u201d In reality, the Christian faith has maintained an unbroken teaching that the right to life begins in the womb from <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/christianity.stackexchange.com\/questions\/62870\/what-arguments-support-an-early-date-for-the-didache\"><span>apostolic times<\/span><\/a><span>. <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.princeton.edu\/~prolife\/articles\/embryoquotes2.html\"><span>Science<\/span><\/a><span> and embryology agree that life begins at conception.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Pelosi has fervently supported policies that would force nuns to pay for contraception and potentially abortifacient drugs as part of the Affordable Care Act\u2019s HHS mandate, calling freedom of conscience protections \u201c<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/catholiccitizens.org\/issues\/politicians-catholic\/91691\/nancy-pelosi-little-sisters-of-the-poor-should-be-forced-to-pay-for-abortions\/\"><span>despicable<\/span><\/a><span>.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Pelosi also claimed her Roman Catholic faith convinced her to support same-sex marriage. When asked how she could reconcile her stance with the outspoken opposition of the Catholic leadership and the Catholic moral tradition, she <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.realclearpolitics.com\/video\/2012\/05\/11\/pelosi_catholic_faith_compels_me_to_support_same-sex_marriage.html\"><span>replied<\/span><\/a><span> haltingly, \u201cMy religion compels me \u2014 and I love it for it \u2014 to be against discrimination of any kind in our country. And I consider this a form of discrimination.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The Roman Catholic Church holds that marriage is the lifelong union of one man and one woman, and that politicians should not redefine that ancient, pre-political institution. Then-Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger (the future Pope Benedict XVI) <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.vatican.va\/roman_curia\/congregations\/cfaith\/documents\/rc_con_cfaith_doc_20030731_homosexual-unions_en.html\"><span>wrote<\/span><\/a><span> in 2003, \u201cIn those situations where homosexual unions have been legally recognized or have been given the legal status and rights belonging to marriage, clear and emphatic opposition is a duty. One must refrain from any kind of formal cooperation in the enactment or application of such gravely unjust laws.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Pelosi similarly holds to a view of transgender ideology that could gut religious freedom. As the Catholic News Agency has <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.catholicnewsagency.com\/news\/247652\/pelosi-says-shes-pleased-with-vatican-letter-to-us-bishops-on-communion\"><span>noted<\/span><\/a><span>, Pelosi \u201chas also supported the Equality Act, legislation that the U.S. bishops\u2019 conference (USCCB) has warned would \u2018punish\u2019 religious groups opposed to the redefinition of marriage and transgender ideology.\u201d The Vatican set out its teaching in the 2019 document \u201c<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.vatican.va\/roman_curia\/congregations\/ccatheduc\/documents\/rc_con_ccatheduc_doc_20190202_maschio-e-femmina_en.pdf\"><span>Male and Female He Created Them<\/span><\/a><span>,\u201d which establishes \u201cthe centrality of the body\u201d for determining one\u2019s immutable sex.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Pelosi has so frequently and publicly flouted the moral standards of her church that Catholics have called for her to be denied Holy Communion until she repents. Pelosi\u2019s own diocesan leader, Archbishop of San Francisco Salvatore J. Cordileone, announced in a letter this spring that politicians who support abortion-on-demand should refrain from taking the Eucharist.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cIf you find that you are unwilling or unable to abandon your advocacy for abortion, you should not come forward to receive Holy Communion,\u201d he wrote. \u201cTo publicly affirm the Catholic faith while at the same time publicly rejecting one of its most fundamental teachings is simply dishonest.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>A month later, the full Roman Catholic hierarchy began the process of creating a uniform statement about pro-choice Catholic politicians. As The Daily Wire\u2019s Emily Zanotti <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/us-catholic-bishops-approve-drafting-of-eucharistic-document-addressing-communion-for-pro-abortion-politicians\"><span>reported<\/span><\/a><span>, in June \u201cthe United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) voted, overwhelmingly, on Friday to draft a \u2018teaching document\u2019 addressing the issue of Communion for openly pro-abortion politicians, like Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), and President Joe Biden.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Despite her church\u2019s increasingly specific censure, Pelosi remains defiant of the impending threat of ecclesiastical discipline.
