Kendi in a new segment called \u201ccounterpoint.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Owens invited Kendi onto her show, but heard no response from Kendi or his team. So, instead, Owens played a clip of the author reading from his own book, \u201cHow to Be an Antiracist,\u201d before giving her own response (video below).<\/p>\n<p>Kendi, whose real name is Ibram Henry Rogers, Owens noted, is focused on so-called \u201cnon-racists\u201d because there is such a fringe portion of the population who are actual racists. While Martin Luther King Jr. was fighting actual racists and racism, Owens argued, Kendi is ironically focusing on people who aren\u2019t racist, mostly white people. Yet again someone is describing my work in a way I reject and attacking their own flawed description,\u201d Kendi started a Twitter thread criticism Owens.<\/p>\n<p>Quoting Owens, he wrote: \u201cWhat he is alleging is that unless you are anti, which he defines as meaning, you are aggressively, constantly attacking it, then somehow you become it. So if you are not aggressively everyday waking up and looking and seeing racism everywhere, then you\u2019re a racist.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s actually not what I\u2019m saying or even alleging, and I oppose this rhetoric. This flawed rhetoric defines racist as a fixed category, as who a person is, or becomes,\u201d the author claimed. \u201c<span class=\"css-901oao css-16my406 r-poiln3 r-bcqeeo r-qvutc0\">If Owens were addressing my book <\/span><span class=\"r-18u37iz\"><a class=\"css-4rbku5 css-18t94o4 css-901oao css-16my406 r-1n1174f r-1loqt21 r-poiln3 r-bcqeeo r-qvutc0\" role=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/HowtoBeanAntiracist?src=hashtag_click\">#HowtoBeanAntiracist<\/a><\/span><span class=\"css-901oao css-16my406 r-poiln3 r-bcqeeo r-qvutc0\">, then she\u2019d know I wrote that \u2018racist and antiracist are not fixed identities. We can be racist one minute and antiracist the next.\u2019 These are descriptive terms, describing what a person is being in any given moment.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf Owens were addressing my work, she\u2019d also know I don\u2019t see racism everywhere,\u201d Kendi continued. \u201cThere\u2019s sexism, homophobia, transphobia, anti-Semitism, ableism, Islamophobia. There are many different forms of bigotry, and different structures of oppression.&nbsp;And those structures intersect and reinforce each other to hinder people of all races. And lest we forget there are people building just and antiracist spaces that are not oppressive.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI also oppose the idea that racism is everywhere because it\u2019s that type of flawed idea that causes some Black men to defend Black men like Bill Cosby or R. Kelly,\u201d Kendi closed this Twitter thread. \u201cTo imagine they aren\u2019t sexual predators. To imagine they are victims of racism.
